I'm looking into bassinet/cot/bed options for our small nursery room with our super tight budget and I remembered that when my sister was in a similar situation, she used a bassinet for around 8 months and then just moved straight to a normal single bed (with a firm mattress) and a guard rail. She didn't bother with getting a cot because they couldn't afford it but already had a spare single bed they could use.
All the advice online seems to tell me this is a terrible idea but her kid has turned out absolutely fine (she's 4 now).
Does anyone else have a similar experience of space/budget issues and skipping a "step" when it comes to beds? Do you HAVE to go from bassinet to cot first ?

I think the advice is not to use bed rails until they're much older, due to the risk of entrapment. A floor bed might be a good option for you 😊
