Chelsea & Westminster vs Kensington Wing – Worth the Upgrade?

Don’t want to scare you but I had a horrible experience in Chelsea and Westminster. My husband insisted previously to go private and I didn’t want to…now I regret it! It’s well known for interventions. Only good thing from my birth was the doctor who did my stitches (had an episiotomy and healed sooo well) so all I can recommend you is to do Kensington wing if you can :)

Hi Jo! Congrats on the pregnancy. I had both my boys at C&W under NHS and we could not have been happier with the care our sons and I got whilst there. I had very complicated births both times both resulting in premature babies and our youngest was in NICU for quite some time. I was in for a few weeks too due to complications and can tell you that I could not have received better care.
We did consider the Kensington Wing however, the in hindsight I’m glad we didn’t because I can’t fault both my experiences under NHS at C&W. Hope this helps.

I had my first baby at the Kensington wing. It was a 10/10 experience. The midwives were amazing, constantly checking in and teaching me everything I needed to know. Food was great, super nice atmosphere and overall a dream experience. Would recommend in a heartbeat

I delivered at the Kensington Wing and honestly, my husband and I had a horrible experience there.

The doctor pulled my baby’s head too hard during delivery, which caused severe nerve damage to her arm. It was completely paralysed, and she ended up needing an 8-hour surgery at just 3 months old. She still has ongoing physio and will likely need it for a long time.

As first-time parents, it was heartbreaking to go through, and on top of everything we ended up having to deal with court proceedings too.

Of course everyone has their own experience, but based on ours, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’d actually say avoid it.
