Just wondering please, looking for recommendations on my first car. With a 2 year old and a busy calendar. I’ve heard some criticism on 3 doors but I see a lot of small fiats and minis that is my preference. Thanks.

You can get a 5 door Skoda Citigo if you want really compact. Or a Skoda Fabia is slightly more roomy for car seats.
I’ve been driving Skodas for 8 years. Very good cars in my opinion.

I’ve had lots of fiats in my time they’d be an absolute nightmare with kids! They’re tiny with a tiny boot x

My first car was a 3 door corsa which I had for 3/4 years (no kids at this point) I then had a 3 door KA for 6 years. Now I have just got a Hyundai ix20 which is 5 doors because i have 2 children now and it was impossible and impractical trying to get them in and out of the KA and it also only had 4 seats. I won’t lie after driving for a decade and only ever having a 3 door car, the 5 door car is absolutely life changing and it’s still not even a ‘big’ car. But not having to physically climb in the back constantly, lack of leg room/floor room in the back, having a bigger boot, best thing ever. I would honestly try and get 5 doors if you can. Even in the 3 door with one child the boot space was just ridiculous his buggy wouldn’t even fit in it I had half in the back with him which will depend on what car you get but life is definitely much easier now, I don’t have to empty the whole thing just to go food shopping either!

4 door corsa maybe? Corsas an ideal and cheap first car, whilst also being practical for you with children.
You can get 4 door minis though if that is what you wanted but either way I’d say a 3 door car with a child would be hassle x

My partner has a 3 door and we have a 3 year old and a 10 month old and I absolutely absolute hate hate hate the thing😩

I wouldn’t touch a fiat at all. In our house it stands for fix it again tomorrow.
I agree that Skodas are brilliant reliable cars. I would have kept my fabia but wanted more room for travelling/camping

As Laura said above, I do think with a 3 door you have massively limited boot space. I had 2 cars before I had kids and both were corsas, the boot space and space in the back between the 3 door and 5 door was massive. I have a much bigger car now and 2 kids so don’t really have any recommendations but I do think you can still get a reasonably priced small car with 5 doors.
I did have the 5 door corsa for a little while with just 1 child and that was great! I think anything similar with 5 doors would be ideal xx

You can get a 5 door mini they are compact with a car seat though. If you want a decent, sturdy car that's a good size I would recommend a VW polo personally. Have always loved my polos. I'm a VW fan generally though

Loving my fiat 500. Barely had any real issues in 4 years.
But it's absolutely not a good choice when having a kid.
If you have a busy calendar and a kid, i do not recommend a small car (even if it has 4 doors). It's a pain (i see it at my friend who has a citroen c1 2015).
If you really insist on a small car i would say a toyota aygo as they are reliable.
My next one on the slightly bigger side, but still smaller than others would be a fiesta.
