My first pregnancy I took folic acid the whole time, I wasn’t told that I didn’t need it after 12 weeks and everything turned out fine. I’m now pregnant with my second. Just wondering if anyone else took folic acid their whole pregnancy or if it was just my midwife who didn’t tell me?

I never took folic acid with any of my 3

I wasn’t told to stop taking it either. I ended up stopping taking it about 32weeks as I was in and out of hospital for the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy (had baby at 36weeks) and I kept forgetting to take it with me. X

The priority is taking it within the first 3 months to reduce the risk of conditions such as spina bifda with clear strong evidence for that. After the first 3 month period, there is evidence it may be linked with improving IQ but evidence isn't as strong. So certainty wouldn't say there would be harm taking it throughout pregnancy, but during pregnancy the first 3 months are the most important x

I took it my entire pregnancy until birth, I wasn't told otherwise.

I took it as part of what was included in prenatal tablets the whole way through last pregnancy. This time is topped taking any kind of medication including prenatals around the second trimester as they were causing gut issues.

I took it for the first 12 weeks and then stopped with my first as it gave me absolute horror morning sickness and my second I didn’t know I was pregnant until 17.5 weeks so never took it. X

Both full pregnancies I took vitamin supplements that contain acid folic.
