Maybe I’m in the minority, but I’d want more context before assuming it was racially motivated. If I only overheard that one sentence, I wouldn’t know what the conversation was actually about.
That said, I’d still be concerned enough to mention it to the school. If it was race-related, that’s obviously a problem. If it wasn’t, describing a child as “one of the good ones” still suggests they’re speaking negatively about other children. Either way, it would raise questions for me.

I think it’s not appropriate, regardless of context. You shouldn’t be referring to any child as “one of the good ones” or “one of the bad ones”. Any variation like that because what does “one of the bad ones” look like? Or why are you comparing people’s children? There’s plenty of people who their words and intentions are trash, coated heavily in microaggressions. 🤷🏽♀️
