Hi all- I’m a first time breast feeder of a NICU baby- I feel like the NICU strict pumping made me an oversupplyer. My baby is 8 weeks old and this morning after feeding both sides I pumped over 15 OZ. My breasts are often engorged and painful. My baby fusses a lot at the breast so I feel like my let down is too much for her. Any suggestions?

Hi! I just went through this with my little one. What I did was block feeding where you feed from one breast at a time alternating with each feed. In the morning I would pump then around 30 minutes later I would offer her both breasts it would be mostly hind milk because your body already expelled the foremilk with the pump in the morning. After the first pump I would alternate breasts so that Each breast would have around 4-6 hours to “fill” between feeds. If it was really painful I would take a hot shower and try to hand express just until it wasn’t extremely painful. It took me about 4/5 days to regulate. The morning was always the hardest for me because I started breastfeeding after my little one was back to her birthweight so I was letting her sleep as long as she wanted so we had already dropped one of the middle of the night feeds.

Oh! Before you put baby to breast you can pump or hand express until letdown so baby doesn’t feel like you are spraying them with a hose lol
