Hey guys
I’m planning to get the implant on Tuesday and I was wondering if there’s anything I should know about the procedure, side effects, potential consequences or other relevant things about it.
For reference I have a 5 month old, haven’t not been intimate with my husband since before she was born and am hoping to take a long haul flight in the next month.
I’d really appreciate anything you can give me

I have Nexplanon for the second time and it definitely shouldn't affect travel or anything. It's minimally invasive as far as a procedure but it is super sore afterward for a bit. It has made my period wonky both times. When I got the first one removed there was a lot of scar tissue around it so that took a little longer than expected. You do have to be careful because they can migrate but honestly I forget to a lot but I'll just randomly check if it's still there. There can be weight gain involved as well. Other than that I'm not too sure. But honestly I love that after you get it you can kinda just forget about it

Have you ever had any hormonal contraceptives before?

Honestly I think it can be so different for everyone. Mine stopped my periods instantly which was great but also made me gain a ton of weight with no change in diet or exercise and then it took a year after removal for my fertility to come back.
Friend of mine took it and bled constantly for 6 months and then had it removed but she didn't notice any weight changes.
Equally I know someone else who loved it and said she found losing weight was no issue.
I personally dont intend on ever going on hormonal contraception again because ive concluded it just doesnt agree with my body and hormones but you never know how your own body will react at the end of the day.
Shouldn't be any issues with travel though!

So if you have relatives with any breast cancer you should get the progesterone only contraception.

I think it's difficult because when you go to your gp/sexual health clinic there isn't so much time to review everything. https://www.contraceptionchoices.org/

By wonky I mean both timing and how heavy my flow was. The first time I bled for a month straight and then every few months I'd have a light period. This time around there was been no rhyme or reason really I had a couple longer and heavier periods then the past few months it's been spotting/light and I even skipped a month. But I'm also 1 year pp with my first and idk exactly how long it takes for a cycle to regulate without contraceptive but I don't imagine added the nexplanon to the mix 7 weeks pp helped.
The first time I didn't have weight gain from getting the nexplanon and I have stayed pretty much the same weight since having my daughter. I knew somebody who has a thinner physique and stayed that way the whole time she had it and didn't gain at all. I agree with Natalie though, it really depends on your body.
I have also tried multiple pill contraceptives and they were awful, but haven't had any issues with the implant.
