My baby is6 weeks old, we have a tounge tie appointment today…we were told at birth she had one but her only small, her latch sometimes is compromised and she does have bad reflux.. what are peoples experiences with getting it done or not getting it done? I’m worried as it’s private they’ll do it if it doesn’t need to be.

My son's was quite a bad tongue tie and we're so glad we got it done for him. It was quick and easy and he latched amazingly afterwards. All I'd recommend is take someone for your support (I was more emotional than my son) and definitely do the recommended rehab after to prevent reattachment xx

Our boy had his cut at 7 days old. It definitely helped reduce the pain of feeding initially but it's taken him another 4 months to fully learn this new way of feeding and for feeding to be pain free. You'll never really know until it's done.
Why won't they see you on the NHS?

We went private and got it done when my son was 4 days old because NHs was 3 week wait.
If you’re going private it’s up to you if you want it to be done. It’s done within seconds, they cry but then you feed them straight away.
You get shown how to massage the area to prevent it reattaching.
We didn’t have any problems. X

We went private too as our trust was a 9 week wait. He was 5 weeks old when they finally admitted he had one and it was affecting his latch and my supply.
It was done in the hospital within 2 days of booking, same doctors but in their private capacity so no 2 month wait. Super fast and calm, he cried for 20 secs but more at being swaddled than the procedure. It’s over it a flash.
Within hours he was feeding better.
