Jealous of formula fed babies sleeping for hours

My breastfed baby wakes up every 1-2 hours still. It’s been very hard work and draining. Multiple times I’ve debated moving to formula because the sleep deprivation is brutal. Even harder when your friends babies are sleeping 6-10 hours on formula.

My friends formula baby woke every couple hours overnight to feed... It's the baby not the feeding method. With breastfeeding there is a stronger comfort connection there so they may be waking for comfort more than out of actual hunger. They may just need help linking their sleep cycles.

It's more biologically normal for them to wake regularly than it is for them to sleep for hours and hour xx

My formula fed baby, feeds every 2.5 hours at 8 weeks. Longest stretch has been 4 hours few times at night. Every baby is different

My baby has mostly formula and the longest stretch of sleep hes had was about 5 hours max. At the moment hes waking every 45 mins to 2 hours at night (not always for a feed though!)

My first formula fed baby didn’t sleep for longer than a 4 hour stretch until he was 3 months old. Before that, he would wake up after 30 mins, 1 hr, 2hrs, sometimes would go the whole night not sleeping, finally settling as the sun came up. He didn’t sleep through the night until he was over a year old. My 2nd formula fed baby has been a great sleeper, as has these longer 4 hr stretches that everyone would talk about whilst I was in the depths of sleep deprivation and depression 3 years ago. The 2nd also doesn’t really sleep in the day though so that’s also fun 🙃

It all depends on the baby. My little dude is EBF and feeds every hour during the day, but gives me 2-3 hour gaps at night x

i started breastfeeding and had to move to formula because i didnt produce enough to match his demand. i was exclusively pumping and giving it to him through a bottle so we could manage how much he was getting as he dropped below birth weight and really struggled putting it back on and then we saw he just wasnt getting enough from me. it was taking him well over an hour to feed for 10mins at a time.

we started by giving a formula feed before bed and then he would have a longer stretch of sleep and breastfed the rest of the time. Breastmilk is thinner than formula so doesnt fill them up as much hence they wake more frequently. If you are struggling with the sleep deprivation just know its okay to give a bottle of formula and see if baby goes down for a longer stretch. There’s so much pressure i felt to breastfeed but ultimately you need to take care of yourself. We are fully on formula now and thats whats massively helped our family stay happy and healthy even though i wanted to bf

Second EBF baby and I get it the sleep deprivation is brutal! My first didn’t sleep more than 2 hour stretches except for between 3 and 4 months until he was just over 2 😭

I do truly believe it’s the baby not the way they’re fed though. I have BF friends who’s babies are the same as mine and some who’s babies sleep long stretches it’s largely temperament based x

I wish my baby slept 6-10 hours lol

Deffo the baby! My first was formula and second BF and they both have been good new born sleepers. My first became a terrible sleeper at 6 months and stayed that way till 2.5 so don’t be too jealous of people who have it good just now 🥲🤪

I did an antenatal class with my first and out of those 10 babies, only 1 slept through the night from 12 weeks and she was exclusively breastfed. Saying that, I do understand the feeling as I've thought it myself when I've been feeding all day with no break 😭🙈

There's no promise of longer sleep stretches if you switch but if you're struggling it's definitely worth a try. It's so important to look after yourself ❤️

Pretty sure that's a myth. My ebf 5 week old sleeps a good 6 hours sometimes

My baby is formula fed and is currently waking every 2.5 hours then taking ages to settle again, we’ve had a couple of long stretches but it’s not happened much 😅 I also know people who have BF and their babies have slept really well from the start so I definitely think it’s the baby and not the feeding method!

My first child never woke up I had to wake her up because I was worried, she was huge from 1 month so HV was not worried about her sleeping…. My second would sleep 6-8hours stretches… My last born wakes every two hours and they all breast fed.
