I’m stressedddd!

Mine will be 5 in November, but she’s just recently figured out how to spell mom, dad and her name. We’ve tried to show her and even sounded out all the words but I’m not too stressed about her not knowing how to read yet cause I know it’ll come to her

I didn’t think they needed to be able to read when starting school. They just need to be able to recognise all of the letters. Sounds like you’re doing a great job.

Start with sight word books

I think some kids have an aptitude for it and so end up learning early and others (like the ones you'll probably see on social media) have it forced upon them. I'd rather let my daughter be a child than force loads of learning on her at a young age, they've got their whole lives for school. Mine happens to like numbers and letters so we do some simple sums and she recognises all the numbers and letters because that's what she likes to do, I think there's a chance she'd be able to read by 5 because she's inclined towards interest in that sort of thing. Meanwhile I'd love her to be more active/interested in being active! I don't think there's actually much benefit to being really ahead when you start school cos you'll just get bored 🤷🏼‍♀️ don't stress. He'll get there!

Don’t stress about it. It sounds like he had a good foundation. If you want to throw some reading in there, I always stop at easy words in books and pretend not to know them. Then I sound them out and we move on.

Don’t stress! Hooked on Phonics has helped me teach my kids. Also ABC.com. Letter sounds. I use Pinterest a lot for stuff like this. Every kid is very different. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself or your kiddo! I dislike the comparisons that we are taught to put on our kids. Your kiddo sounds like they are exactly where they should be! And you’re doing a great job!! “You’re doing better than you think you are” is one of my favorite sayings. I know for me, I’m my hardest critic! Grace mama! Grace! 💛💛💛

DuoKids & Khan Academy were fun and felt like games to them so they caught on quickly. I love to show them Ms. Monica or Gracie’s corner on YouTube. I randomly help them sound out new words. They both are doing exceptionally well with it.

They do not need to be able to read before kindergarten. Relax. Thats the schools job to teach. If you want to help, do hooked on phonics with your child. They have an app and they have physical books.

Letter recognition and word sounds are important

Kids dont need to know how to read yet - thats what's schools for! Reading, interest in letters and singing/rhymes is all that they need before school. Make your life easy and just let school what it needs to do and as the parent continue to encourage reading, sounding out words, rhyming etc
