My son just turned 4 in July and I notice that when I told him that I loved him while dropping him off for Daycare, he seemed a little embarrassed so his teacher asked if he was going to say it back but by then I felt I was forcing it so I just let it go.. and then he went to his grandma and grandfather house this weekend and when I was trying to give him a kiss, he didn’t want to give me one although he did give me a hug. Am I reading a little too much in this, it’s a bit hurtful but my fiancée told me that’s how all kids act.. but how do you deal with this? I’m finally realizing that my baby boy isn’t a baby anymore!

Sometimes my 4-year-old will say I hate you 🤦🏻 And I say " oh that's unfortunate because I love you"
I'll ask if I can kiss him and he says no. And I say " ok maybe tomorrow"
Most of the time when I do this he changes his mind and says " oh probably I do want to kiss" or " probably I do love you"
is right. It's perfectly normal for the age. They're just figuring out what different things mean and where their boundaries are. I think it's healthy and important to know that you can control what happens to your body even at 4
