Setting timers for meal times

It doesnt matter what meal or what size it takes my nearly 5 year old son over an hour to eat.
Im tempted to out a timer in front of him so he can visualise how long he has as he ends up so late.
Would I be wrong for doing so?

Personally I don’t like the sound of this. I feel like it will give him a massive complex with food, maybe move mewl time slightly earlier? I’m sure there’s something that can help but I really don’t think setting a timer is the right way

Personally I think it’s totally fair for a 5 year old to have a timer at this point. If it takes him an hour, start setting it at 45-50 minutes and slowly bring the time limit down. Give him one instruction: when the timer goes off the food goes away until the next meal time. He will learn to eat quicker. But doesn’t need to be faster than 20-30 mins total.

I think it will help him learn time is a finite resource and we all have to meet deadlines, schedules, etc on a time-budget. If he’s interested in the food but just a slow eater, nothing wrong with this in my opinion.

My dad used to put the timer on the microwave, and if I wasn't done eating, I'd get a "spanking." What would you do when the timer ran out?
I developed a severe anxiety and panic disorder from this method.
It also taught me to try and hide food.
