How can I prevent my child getting ill - is there any way?

My 16 month old baby’s been ill with a horrible vomiting bug, she’s doing a bit better and we’re out the hard bit with that but it has been horrible. The GP said it’s a viral infection and I wondered how can I reduce the risk of this in the future? She’s touching everything at the park and when out and about and she’s teething so hands are in her mouth more than usual. Other than washing her hands when we’ve been out or taking some baby wipes out and cleaning her hands every so often when out and about - what can I do? Do we think there’s anything?

You cant do anything i'm afraid and I know this doesnt help but it does build their immune system up and it does get better. My son started nursery in Feb at 10mo. He was so ill feb and march with vomiting bugs, viral infections, hfm, and even rsv and tonsillitis that required hospitalisation. It was awful. 2 months of back to back bugs.

We havent been that ill since. He has random coughs and colds. And occasional bugs here and there but when we all had norovirus about a month go he didnt. And then we have just had a stomach bug this past weekend and he only had sickness twice and 3 or 4 losse nappies whereas we were all worse off.

They are putting their hands in their mouth, touching everything they can that its unavoidable I'm afraid and as bad as it is that's how you will want it so their immune system can build otherwise when they get sick, if they've always been protected from it, it can be a lot worse.

Hope your baby feels better soon. Xx
