So we had our 1 year check a couple of months ago (she's not 14 months) and when the health visitor measured her height she told me she was on the 25th percentile for her height which is a little short but that she would probably have a growth spurt at some point.
However I have just looked in her red book as I was curious how many cms she was and she has plotted her on the 9th percentile....... So I'm worried if there could be something wrong.
At the time the health visitor said something about if she 3 points below average they would be a little worried but she was only '2 points'. I'm not sure what this means.
Anyone else had a short 1 year old that has suddenly grown?
She's 75th percentile for weight! 🤣

This popped up on my for you page. My 23 month old is short but it’s been assumed it’s because she’s dropped to her genetic line. I think she’s about 10% but that is similar to myself as I’m only 5 foot. The doctors explained that around the time they are 1-2 they will follow a genetic line instead. No one is concerned because she’s growing and happy.

You can't judge anything off one measurement, if there was a drop and she'd been following the 25% line then suddenly ended up in the 9% then yeh I could see a cause for concern. But without previous heights, what does one mean out of context?

Do you have her measurements before 1 yo?
What she meant with the '3 points' is that as long as she doesn't drop more than 2 centiles (more than 2 is 3), things are usually within an acceptable variance that doesn't have to be investigated.
That means that if a baby measures in the 91st centile and then drops to the 25th centile, it has to be investigated. But if a 25th centile falls to a 9th centile, things are fine, but if it falls to a 2nd centile, then it is a concern.
If you are not sure about the accuracy of the graphic, you can plot it yourself with the height she took and see where it falls.
Also beware that at that age the difference between one centile line and the other is 1.5 cm and it is very difficult to measure them accurately because they move and the method HV use is not meant to be super precise. And the dot falls within a cell that also has some variance.
It is important to have a series of measurements to see a trend and that's when they see if something should be a concern.

Try not to stress yourself out with the charts —kids grow at their own pace and short doesn’t mean unhealthy. Say it with me: short doesn’t mean unhealthy!!
I’d be stoked if my kid were in the 9th percentile 😂. I’m only 4’9” myself and come from a long line of people well below 5’. My daughter is barely clinging on to the 5th percentile but I was never even on the growth charts as a child lol. Who cares? All that matters is that the kid is growing and healthy!
