Colostrum harvesting

Hello I reached 37 weeks on Saturday and have tried to harvest colostrum for the last few days with no luck. Has anyone else managed to do this before childbirth and, if so, how many attempts did it take?

I'm 38 weeks now and haven't managed to get any.

With my first I started around 36 weeks, did manage to get a fair bit in the end but it took a while and was hard work! Baby was born at 38 weeks and I didn't even need it.

I tried for the first time the other day and got alot more than expected, I took a nice warm bath before it and honestly i think that helped and massaging for a good few minutes helped aswell

You can ask your midwife at the next appointment to show you how to do this. I was convinced I simply didn’t have any yet with my first at 36 weeks and my midwife helped me get it right. Nice bath and a warm compress beforehand can help a lot. It’s much easier when you’re relaxed x

My first pregnancy was very difficult l spend around 10-15min on each breast, you need quite place, massage for 3min and then start trying, l was able to collect very little at first ,around 1ml from both after few days start making 2ml from both.
This pregnancy today l started and was very easy which am happy, l collect 1ml each breast.
If for couple days there is nothing don't stress yourself, talk to your midwife x
Good luck!

I'm 40+5 and I've not managed to get anything. Spoken to midwives and they aren't worried. They said some mums find milk doesn't come in until baby born.
