I was having a talk with my BD mom and she was telling me that none of the women in their family went through PPD. She said “only moms doing all that extra shi- go thru it” and by extra shit, she meant breastfeeding, not drinking, watching what you eat, homeschooling, etc. She said she was out partying as soon as she healed and didn’t let her kids stop her from drinking or smoking. I was honestly speechless. But I wanna know if anyone agrees or disagrees and what your reasoning is. TBH I think she’s crazy and needs help

I don't even understand why she would say that like it's a flex....

Makes zero sense. Sorry but she sounds dumb af 😬🫣

I didn't do any extra shit to qualify for PPD 😂

i don’t love your phrasing of the title but i agree with you that she’s wrong ! you’re not only a ‘good mum’ if you breastfeed, homeschool, watch what you eat etc etc. but i’m sure that’s not what you meant it’s just how it read. but none of that has anything to do with whether or not you experience PPD/PPA so yeah you’re right she’s completely wrong 🤦🏼♀️ the problem is probably education, it was less known about 40+ years ago so people were probably experiencing it and not understanding, so not sharing with others, or getting treated and seeing it as unrelated etc. so it probably won’t be that no one she knows experienced it but she either didn’t know they were struggling or didn’t know that’s what it was xx

It can be “good moms” who go through ppd but I also think women who don’t know they are being emotionally and mentally abused by their partners also deal with ppd. But the narc moms who are clearly selfish probably would act like they are better than other moms cuz they supposedly don’t have the typical ppd symptoms. And narcs sometimes love to use substances to avoid their true feelings of shame and inadequacy, so even if they have ppd they probably would do things to hide it cuz they can’t face the shame again like drinking. Unless you are dealing with the type of narc who is the perpetual victim and will use it to gain sympathy.

She’s dead wrong.
I had terrible ppd with my first. Lasted almost a year, and I didn’t even see it until the clouds started to part.
I was unable to breastfeed, didn’t watch what I ate, and generally did whatever I felt like. No alcohol or drugs though, I’ve been sober a long while.
My boy is four months old. I breastfeed, eat healthy, workout, and get the kids out of the house. I’ve never been happier.

The only way what she’s saying could make sense would be that the more pressure you put on yourself in terms of your expectations the more likely you are to be in the depth of despair in the first few years especially but it’s not like it’s a prerequisite it would be like something that could increase the likelihood of this happening or if you already have it make it worse but I don’t even think you could say that there’s an actual statistically significant correlation because the only relevant thing would be the intent and that’s not what’s being described

Eee yeah I don’t think we should moralize mental illness, it sounds like mayyyybe something someone good intentioned would say though I guess to a mom who’s going through it, but your mom doesn’t sound like that’s what she was trying to do 😅

Mental illness doesn’t work like that. I’m sure lots of stress can exasperate it but this lady sounds cray

Who knew the cure for ppd was leaving your baby to party.

Oh how lovely if we could have that much control over our brains and hormones! 🤣🤣🤣 just do less and it'll fix it! 💀

Literally none of that has anything to do with PPD/PPA.

Pretty sure the requirements for having PPD or PPA or PPP is just...having a baby...
My baby girl is 13 days old today and i am worried about the cries she has been showing me since Sunday. She would burst out crying for a short period and scrunch her self up showing what looks like pain in her stomach. Shes also crying when she passes wind and at the end of her feeds. I am doing a combination of formula and breastmilk, i am using infacol as it could be colic, massaging her daily and she cries when i do that, i just dont know what to do. I took her A&E yesterday and they said she is fine but im not convinced as she’s really upset and she’s not normally like this. Any advice please.

My LO is 13 months old. He understands EVERYTHING. I say get the ball bring it to me he does. I ask him to show me the planes he points. He waves he claps. Everytime I speak to him he responds with ‘ooohh’
He babbles dadada wawawawa bababa and constantly makes noises. Like oooohh ahhhh uhhhh but no proper real word yet. Should I be worried?

We went to explore pushchairs at mamas and papas and they really seem to encourage you to buy the ocarro package which is 12kg + and bulky once folded. Are these realistic to use post 6 months or is it better to go with something like Joolz/Nuna which are most compact but less sturdy I guess.

Hello
Just looking for some advice on sundown scaries.
Our little girl is 11 days old today and I’m struggling with anxiety in the evenings.
She starts stirring and getting a bit grizzly in the evenings, on and off crying, wont be put down, just restless and cluster feeding. I find it quite overwhelming.
I feel pretty good in the day, but from 4pm I just feel riddled with anxiety.
I try to go to bed around 9pm if she’s settled & get a couple hours in before my partner brings her up around 11pm. Then my night shift starts.
I try to let my partner sleep through as we’re trying to establish a bit of a routine before he goes back to work next week.
Any advice on sundown scaries? How long did it last for you?
TIA

What age did you leave your breastfed baby away from you? My baby won’t take a bottle. I’m scared to go to the shop without him just incase.

My little boy started nursery last week for 2 days.
Ever since he has been so clingy, he was never like this before.
He rejects his Dad and only wants to be held by me. He just arches his back and screams if it’s anyone else.
I have to be within touching distance at all times or it’s the end of the world.
He used to be so independent & didn’t mind me not being there?
Is he just adjusting? Is he scared? I just feel so bad but also so touched out!!
Has anyone had this happen to them?
