What do you *do* with your LO to fill a day?

Sounds daft maybe but I'm at home all day every day with 17mo, (I work evenings) and sometimes I just don't know what to do? He's very much a LET ME BE ACTIVE child, though he does love his books.

With the weather turning I'm a little anxious about how to entertain him everyday!

He's still big into mourning so crafts / drawing / sticker books are out still.

I feel like pinterest and Instagram activities make it look like he should be doing so many specific activities but he isn't which worries me.

Everyday we read loads of books, he watches me do household stuff, we go to a few toddler classes, the library. We go for walks when we can, mooch around shops.

He isn't interested in toys!
We have shape sorted, fisher price farm, stacking cups, ball pit, all the recommended things for this age but it's not his jam!

We do allow a brief Teletubbies episode everyday so I can get dinner cooked / do a handover to Daddy when he finishes work.

Living in a small city on a tight budget doesn't help! Sometimes I feel bad we don't do more!

It also makes me worried his language isn't coming on - he understands well but doesn't speak much (shouts AAA at everything basically) so I feel guilty he doesn't go to nursery and have more exposure to others his age! Which is daft because I know so so many people would love my set up being at home during the day with him!

Ok this was a longer less structured ramble than I intended sorry!

We spend a large amount of our time at the park! We also read books. Sometimes all take him to Pets At Home to see the animals 🤣 sounds like you’re doing more than enough. Have you tried colouring? My son wasn’t interested but he loved putting the crayons in the basket and chucking them out again. That passed some time. He also loves climbing in and out of the new washing basket we got. You could get the pots and pans out to see if he wants to give those a bash?! I got mine to throw his clean nappies into the basket the other day so he technically put them away for me.

I stayed at home with my now 3 years old and she started talking at 12 months, she said a lot of words and it was very easy to understand. I now have a 16month old who also doesn’t go to nursery and his speech is similar to your little ones which I also sometimes worry about but I wouldn’t worry too much about it as long as he understands things, you’re reading loads of books and going to groups when you can. I think they’re all just different and he will get there with his speech by interacting with you.

Some that come to mind for around the house which I’ve done recently are:
- we got him a hopper, so he sits on that and bounces which is always good if he’s a bit energetic
- mess free painting, either by putting blobs of paint on a sheet of paper, putting that in a sandwich bag which I tape down so he can splat & move the paint around
- I recently got some animal magnets foe the fridge (whole of the back is the same shape as the front, so I’ve been less anxious about him eating them) which he’s loved and great for going over names and sounds
- we got some wooden spoons, painted nursery rhymes on them (a duck, a star ect) and we like make a game of picking him out of a bag and I sing them which he tolerates

Other than that I’ve just let him follow me with chores. He likes adding items to the washing machine one by one, likes to hold the brush while I sweep ect

We live in a flat and I have an active almost 4yo and an active 17mo. We live 5 minutes from the beach and if its not too cold/windy we go down there but mainly go for walks, to the park, things away from roads where I can park up the pram and they both can be free to run around without too much concern.

I take both to a playgroup.

My son still puts things in his mouth to chew so arts and crafts are really hit and miss.

I wouldnt worry too much about his speech. My older one had 1 word at 16mo and wasnt in nursery until 2. She had maybe 10 words before 2 and then once she started nursery her language took off. Sometimes babies are so focused on skills that others are forgotten.

Sounds like you're doing a great job. My kids also have tv time to get things done otherwise I would get nothing done at all!

Also know people that have stayed home with their kids til 3 and their speech has been just fine. It will get there x

Another episode of - is he cheating:

General vibes over the years - seems to exit out of what he was looking at on his phone when I come in the room, has the opportunity with ā€œwork dinnersā€ and things, found a hair tie in his car one time. I know that sounds bad, but no one who knows him would think he’s capable of it, and I’ve always chalked it up to my own anxiety and insecurities.

Yesterday I found a necklace.

Discreet box, ordered to the house, last night he unboxed it, put the nice cloth bag in his backpack, and left for work with that this morning. (Yes I know this bc I was snooping) A quick google shows it was a Very expensive necklace.

Took everything I had not to ask about it, but I’m waiting until this evening to see if it’s still in his backpack or not. He could be hiding it and giving it to me at some point but idk.

Thoughts?

I’m so so sad and hoping for some encouragement

Today my boyfriend ( not my baby daddy) ended our relationship just short of two years. We went so slow , he met my son 6 months into dating . I felt like I waited to really bring him in and I have tried so hard to be certain before allowing my now 3 year old get to know him. They’ve been getting to know eachother more closely for the last 8 months and it seems so good.
Today we scheduled a convo to just talk about how he’s feeling about everything. And I’ve been asking him to communicate with me about his journey through this all. He doesn’t have kids. Today he said , he just at doesn’t know what he wants but he has been selfish because he wants me and loves me and I’m the most incredible women he has ever met but he can’t see it working because he just doesn’t know if he can have my son in his life the way ultimately I would want some day.
I’ve just asked for a friendship with my son. My son has a dad . But it’s over now I guess. I feel side blinded. He never spoke of feeling like he didn’t want this. He said it wasn’t fair to me and it especially wasn’t fair to my son. I appreciate the honesty and , it’s better now than later . We don’t live together or anything.
But guys I’m heart broken and I finally let someone in and I just feel like, what’s the point of trying again? It just hurts. It hurts me and now I have to navigate his absence for my son.
I just feel like society views us in this way I hate. Like taking on a women with a child is such a burden. I don’t ask for anything beyond love us both , he is a part of me .

Does anyone feel like this? Experienced this?
I feel so rejected and just… defeated. I don’t think I want to date anymore . I know every breakup feels that way but… mabey it’s just not in the cards for me.

This is the first relationship that felt healthy, loving and truly happy and I’m so sad to lose this person that brought me so much joy and has been with me through so much as a mother .

Nursery pictures/paimtings

My daughter stared nursery 2months ago and I love her paintings and pictures but I’m running out of magnets and fridge space 🤣🤣

What does everyone do with their kids stuff?? Any good ideas of keeping them in one piece and not in a box hidden somewhere?
