Their Privates

my kids are too young to understand anatomy or to talk about their parts but when they’re old enough i’ll be teaching them to say the correct word. “Penis” nothing else.

My daughter has referenced her vagina specifically since she could speak. It is super important to teach them the anatomical term for their bodies so that they are able to explain if something is happening to them. When my nephew was a baby, I referenced his private part as his penis, which is what it is.

Yeah we use the normal words penis and vagina. And then booties

For his penis, we literally just taught him to call it his penis (although somewhere along the line he picked up “weiner” too, so 🤷‍♀️ oh well, I feel like weiner isn’t that bad, but I don’t reinforce it and I myself only use penis.

HOWEVER, the issue of what to call his “balls” has troubled us. Because testicles just sounds so odd, and it’s actually kind of hard for him to pronounce because he currently has a slight lisp. So I’ve personally just called them his “balls” but I thought that might confuse or be too silly for a 3 yr old boy who plays with a lot of sports balls? Then one day my husband said “nut sack” 🤦🏼‍♀️ to my son & now my son is running around calling his testicles his “nut sack” half the time. I was like, “thanks babe!” to my husband 🤦🏼‍♀️🙉 men…*shakes head* 🤷‍♀️
But yeah…this is a tough one, so I’m interested to see what others say…I’ll be following for potential new recommendations!

For my son is grew up with my mom calling boys penis a "wee wee" and have since had my son calling it his "wee wee". My son is also delayed and has semi limited speech so he doesn't say most words well enough for you to understand so we went with something everyone would be able to understand if he said it.

To call it other things like weiner or balls or wee wee or nut sack I think is all totally fine. If something were to happen and they told an adult someone touched my balls or nut sack people are gonna understand. People aren’t stupid and not gonna understand unless they specifically say someone touched my testicles. It’s not that big of a deal. Yes we still use the normal words but that’s because it’s easy. But I’m not doing it so adults don’t get confused. We will all understand if something was said

This thread helps, I didn't think to tell my son about his testicles just thought it was part of the penis. We say penis, vagina, and butt though. The only caveat is for breasts we call them chichis because of my heritage and it's way easier to say lol. I have a hard time explaining to them like nobody is supposed to touch you down there. but mommy and daddy have to wipe their butts because they're still in diapers which i feel like is super confusing (no matter how much we're working on potty training.) but at least they're learning the words and recognize their body is theirs and what its called. We've tried to explain to them if anyone makes them uncomfortable they tell us but I feel like it goes in one ear and out the other. So idk as they grow older im sure theyll understand more.
