Did anyone change from normal milk to comfort without speaking with their HV?
I have a 5 week old and they still only poop once every other day, constantly crying about wind and sometimes seems to struggle to pass wind, we’ve tried loads of natural ways to pass the wind (bicycle kicks etc) and have on the advice of midwives done infacol and optibac and it’s not really made much difference.
We were wondering if we just try the comfort milk if it would help? Didn’t know if we had tell the health visitor though before switching or can try it and then discuss it with them..?

Baby is 5 weeks tomorrow. Originally the drs thought she had cows milk allergy so was on different formula but turns out it was just severe reflux. He told me to keep to change to comfort milk aswell just incase but I can’t say it’s made much difference. She still struggles to bring up wind, moans constantly, arching her back and crying. At night time she never has a proper sleep, she’s just wriggling around and uncomfortable. I’ve look into maybe changing the teats on my bottles but it’s just an extra cost that isn’t guaranteed to fix the issue 🤦🏼♀️
Night time sounds similar to us, she wriggles around a lot moaning and groaning. We can get her to settle with a dummy for a bit but then she’ll spit that out so your up every 10 minutes putting it back in 🤦🏼♀️
Every time we’ve mentioned it to someone they just tell us her digestive system is still maturing so continue with the infacol and optibac. Reading up on things they mature around 6 weeks apparently… so I’m hoping that we turn a corner 🤞🏻

My baby had the same issues as you have described and I tried him on comfort for this reason, unfortunately he then began projectile vomiting every time i was winding him 😕

I tried the comfort milk and it made my baby more sicky than she already was so stopped it. So I’m next going to try the cow and gate milk which is for reflux

We switched to the comfort milk after a few weeks old with same problems you are describing. It has worked a dream, she isnt so uncomfortable and is able to go everyday without struggling.
Think we all seem to have different experiences with it though, do what is right for you and your baby. Good luck 🤞🏻

If she’s struggling to bring up wind you can maybe try infocol or other similar drops to give her before her bottle/in her bottle, we’ve been using it for a couple weeks now and she’s been so much better and more comfortable, we did think about switching to comfort milk but tried the drops first and they’ve worked well

We have this same problem x baby now 8 weeks old and we have had to have a very strict routine we had Dr browns but changed to mam bottles and they are better we use mam bottles infacol twice every feed before and during its very important to do the before x lots of winding bicycle belly rubs, a bath at night before bed helps he doesn’t settle if he hasn’t had a bath and yes comfortable milk we found we had to start by using every second bottle comfort milk and every other normal first milk we use kendamil as comfort was too thick to begin with I think they say not to but know lots of people including myself who have given cooled boiled water if they wake during the night he’s my 3rd baby usually he goes poo a few hours later and helps settle him I stopped his 1-3am night feeds at 6 weeks he sleeps from 9-5 now before he was up at 1am and would take till 2/3 to settle and then back up at 4ish x it does get better just have to find what works with you I don’t give the water anymore

As he sleeps but if he wakes I do change his nappy and straight back down maybe a cuddle before x

Also if giving cooled boiled water I’d say stick to a max of 15-30ml only wait and then give a bottle if necessary if still doing night feeds they may take a bit less of the bottle but the water helps the bowls move x they don’t recommend it due to kidneys but never done any of mine etc any harm if just a little

We moved to comfort without speaking to a health visitor, I tried speaking to my health visitor with my first and asked them about moving to comfort and they were pretty useless so didn’t even bother mentioning it this time!
We moved from normal first Kendamil to comfort and it’s made so so much difference, my baby seems less uncomfortable, pooping more and just much more content
My midwives in the hospital said there’s no harm in chopping and changing as long as it’s not too often
