So I had a scan on Tuesday… I ended up being in the hospital from 2:30-7:30pm with a toddler🤯
They saw that my baby is breech, which really upset me cos of how far along I am, I just have a feeling I’m gonna have to have a c section.
I feel so much movement and idk if that’s due to her being breech? Every other time I’ve had a scan she has been head down, it’s so annoying. Apparently her bum is in my pelvis and her legs are stretched out straight? Like a V shape…?
The hospital basically sent me away on Tuesday with a few options: I can either let them try and manually turn her, I’ve heard mixed opinions on this so if anyone’s had that done can you please comment your experience!
Then they said either that or she will turn on her own, or you will have to have a c section…so it’s obviously ruined all my plans of having a second natural birth…the idea of a c section terrifies me, especially when I have an 18 month old as I’ve heard the recovery is much much worse. I’m also the only one in my house that drives so it’s just stressing me out so much.
I’ve got a midwife appointment on Friday, then on the 24th the hospital have asked me to come in so they can use a Doppler to see if she’s moved? Cos they can’t do 2 scans so close together…but will that even be accurate? Cos surely you can hear her heartbeat no matter what position she’s in I just don’t think I’m gonna be able to trust what they say when they haven’t even done a scan to see!
I need some advice, about the manual turning of the baby, about the Doppler being used to see her position, basically everything. Please tell me someone has experienced this and can guide me in the right direction cos I’m panicking quite a lot here.
Thank you x

I’ve heard of plenty of baby’s being born breech. I would ask some more questions about the risks of this and what % of breech births end in an emergency c section. Have a look at the positive birth company on Instagram, I’m sure they’ve shared breech baby’s being born before!

My baby was breeched and as advised by my Dr when i was in Los Angeles still, i did the manual turning. I didnt look into it, i just showed up to then appointment and honestly it was tramatic. I had 2 nurses, one on each side of me, using the back of their arms, to press down on both sides and shift the bump clockwise. It was really painful, i remember looking to the side and both nurses were pressing so hard that one of their feet were lifting of the ground. And, in the end it didnt work. The baby wouldnt shift. I wouldnt do it again. Maybe its different in UK, but def worth an ask.
I had the c section, and it turned out fine! I walked the same day around the hospital room, they actually recommend it. The healing process was not as bad as i thought. So much so im opting for an elective c section on this second baby im having soon.
I hope that helps.

I’m currently going through the same, I haven’t heard any positive stories about ECV just how painful it is and I think if its painful for me surely it’s hurting baby too and my gut is just saying don’t do it. I will do anything to avoid a C-section- i would definitely ask about breech vaginal birth, the fact they are currently frank breech is much safer than footling breech. My midwife was all for me having a vaginal birth and even still a homebirth! I have been doing exercises to open up the pelvis and ‘move’ baby but I’ve not got my 36 week scan until next week when I’ll be 37 weeks to see if he’s moved. It confused me as I was feeling kicks up high but it’s because he’s folded like a sandwich 😂 but I’m so stressed about it as I had such a lovely natural birth 1st time round xx

Have you tried all the exercises they recommend to turn baby?
They say it allows more space in uterus so baby can flip

Look at the spinning babies website for exercises to turn baby. My friend’s baby just went breech at 37 weeks, she was booked in for ECV yesterday, but when she went for the appointment the baby had turned back to being head down after 2 days of the exercises.
Also if you do have a c section, the recovery really doesn’t have to be worse! I had a c section, was happily walking around the park etc on day 5, travelled to my brother’s wedding in Cornwall from London on day 10, and spent the wedding day on day 12 on my feet, dancing etc. Spent the rest of that week in Cornwall going on walks, at the beach etc, genuinely fine! Started driving around 14 days after too :)

I had an ECV with my first and 100% would do it again. It unfortunately failed for me but was successful for the 3 women before me. My son was frank breech and upon birth, it became clear it was because his head was just too big for the birth canal. I would 100% recommend giving it a go with you want a natural birth.
I was offered a natural birth and I am so glad I didn't as he would have gotten stuck, due to his head being big, and there are much higher risks. This was confirmed after.
If I had another breech, I would have done another ECV. I heard nothing but negative stories and that wasn't my experience, despite it failing. It was painful but bearable.

I am in the same position (not confirmed by midwife or scan yet but I can feel my babies position very clearly). I have been doing all the spinning babies exercises, walking lots everyday Abe doing a tonne of research. My first was a straightforward homebirth and we are hoping for the same this time. Please have a look at the UK breech both Facebook group, there are SO many positive stories of ECVs on there, both successful and unsuccessful but most people saying they do the same either way - it really altered my way of thinking about them.

I had the manual turning as my first turned breech at 36/37 weeks also after spending my entire pregnancy head down!
I really didn’t want a C section so let them turn him and I’m ngl it was very painful and super uncomfortable and they got it on the 3rd attempt which is the last one they get before having to just leave it
But for me it was worth it, but there is obviously a risk that they can do all of that and they could still turn back to breech so definitely do some research and reading around it
I did loads, luckily my little one stayed still until getting induced
