Potential marriage involving 2 kids

Heya, so im not Muslim i F(26) come from a catholic background but i don’t consider myself religious, my now ex M(26) is a Muslim and his family are also Muslim. The last 7 years together has resulted in us having 2 kids together (2.5yrs) and nearly 1. During this time he left me when I got pregnant with my first becasue we weren’t married and he said it was against his religion to have any involvement with us unless we agreed on marriage. I had just given birth my mind was solely focused on my baby and adjusting to mum life, so we went no contact for a while till i then got pregnant with my 2nd. He’s not seen the kids in months or spoken to me much and when we have it’s very much been about neither of us agreeing on what needs to be done in order to be a family. I am confused on what to do because he has not been around when i was at my most vulnerable and has not been any sort of dad what so ever, but he says it’s because he can’t due to religion. Is what he’s telling me true? I feel like he wants to change me a little to fit his lifestyle but he also said just because we marry I don’t have to revert. The children have my last name and are being brought up without following a religion. So my question is do I marry this guy because he does want to be in our lives the “right” way or is what he’s saying a way to manipulate me?
Any advice would be amazing as I don’t know much about Islam and what it means to be married to a Muslim man. Thankyou!!!
