Peeing all over

Dear Mums and Legal Guardians,

I am quite concerned about my three-year-old daughter.

Over the past month or two, she has been experiencing episodes of self-initiated urination. She is often refusing to go to the toilet despite showing signs that she needs to do so, such as the 'pee dance'. I try to be firm and encourage her to use the toilet, but sometimes it is difficult to determine when she needs to go.

Yesterday, before attending a friend's birthday party, she had an accident at home. At the party, I consistently reminded her to inform me when she needed the toilet. Despite this, she only told me when it was urgent, and she had an accident on the floor. This was quite embarrassing and distressing, and I felt compelled to leave the party early.

Lately at home, I find that unless I take her to the toilet every hour or two, she is likely to have an accident. To emphasise, she was fully potty trained prior to this recent behaviour, which has only emerged within the last one or two months.

I would appreciate any advice or guidance on how to support her through this behaviour.

We’ve had huge issues with my daughter and weeing. She was also potty trained and massively regressed due to big life events. We spent a year trying to get it back under control.

Has she had any big changes lately? For my daughter it’s a control thing.

The best thing that worked for us was a small rewards bag, we wrap little toys (it’s mostly tat, but we were desperate), put them in a see through bag in the bathroom (we were told this is important, so they associate the toilet with the present), every time she goes to the toilet without a bother and doesn’t have wet pants, she can have a present. We were told this by a health visitor and it’s worked well for us.
