Has anyone had or HAS an extremely shy toddler? How did they turn out? What did you do to help? She’s fine with everyone she knows, but when we take her to a group activity with kids or if a stranger waves or says hi she gets extremely uncomfortable and hides and also might cry (I know it’s normal for the most part) but it still makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong on my part as her Mom. She just turned 2 in July. We took her to a gymnastics free class to try it out on Friday it took her about 25 mins to warm up and she was running all over the place once she did, but wouldn’t sit and actually participate/ play with the kids but if she has a one on one play date with someone she knows, she’s completely fine
Even if I’m FaceTiming my friends, she’ll hide and start whining or crying when I face the phone towards her

My son stands awkwardly playing /wringing his hands when he’s at a playground and it breaks my heart
What I started doing was having one on one playdates with a kid he knows very well and is outgoing
Then adding a new friend one week
Definitely gives a few side eyes but the outgoing friend helps bring the “oh this is fine” vibe

I have a very confident daughter but even she doesn't interact with kids at classes. Until 3 they only parallel play anyway. She just runs about, like yours having fun. So I wouldnt worry too much about that aspect.
The way I got my daughter to be less shy was just taking her out constantly to different situations, places, people etc. I never forced it, she can sit on my lap all the time if she wants to but over time she began to want to interact more and more with her surroundings.
