I have been feeding my baby to sleep since birth. She is now 5 months. She will sleep in the carrier and pram during the day, but at night she always falls asleep on the boob and then I put her down - and repeat with every wake.
To mums who have done this with your older children, how old was your child when they stopped feeding to sleep, and how did it happen? Will my baby just disassociate boob with sleep eventually, or did you introduce sleep training?

They can eventually disassociate, but nursing to sleep can definitely create a boob-to-sleep association. That was 100% us 😭 Every time my daughter transitioned between sleep cycles she was basically like “okay where’s the boob?” 😂 If she couldn’t find it, she was UP. She woke every 2–3 hours until around 6 months. I eventually stopped nursing her to sleep and gave expressed milk before bed instead. My husband handled night wakings for a few nights and rocked her back to sleep while I slept in another room so she couldn’t smell me 😂. Her stretches started going from 2–3 hours to 4–5. Eventually we did gentle sleep training where we gave her a chance to resettle before going in, and she learned to transition without needing the boob every time. Some babies grow out of it naturally, but we definitely had to gently help her break the association. ❤️
