Mum guilt and toddler head bumps 😫

My 16-month-old is a VERY active little boy and is constantly climbing on everything at the moment! He had a little fall from the sofa today — I think he may have fallen over on the sofa first and then rolled off, but I’d only left the room for a few seconds so I didn’t actually see it happen but heard the bang!.

He landed on his back and didn’t cry immediately. He looked a bit shocked for a moment and then started crying. He’s been completely himself all day since — eating, playing and behaving normally, with no lump or anything obvious.

I know toddlers are constantly falling, climbing and exploring, but I still find myself worrying when they bang their head or have a fall, especially when you didn’t actually see exactly what happened. 🥺

Do other parents ever feel unsure about what’s “normal” after a toddler falls or bangs their head? What do you usually look out for, and when do you decide it’s worth calling 111/seeing a doctor?

Would love to hear others experiences — I’m sure I’m not the only one who panics a little after every bump 😣

Hey, I spoke to my pediatrician once about this, she said doctors don't do anything unless they:
Bleed when they fall
Become unconscious either when they fall or after
Have blood or fluid come from their ears or where they banged their head after the fall

Obviously if they have signs of a concussion best to take them in, otherwise just keep an eye out for increased fussiness and speak to a dr if you're concerned.

It happens, especially with boys. My little boy and his brother bump into each other or things all the time 😣 keeps us on our toes!!

I hear you mama. My boy fell off the sofa head first 🤦🏼‍♀️ the scream was awful but he settled after 5 minutes. He was then playing happily, drinking and eating. It's super scary but I agree with the above comment x
