Unwell 5 year old

My 5 year old has caught a viral bug and is on antibiotics and have given the antibiotics 3x so far. He still has a fever 39.2 on day 3 of being unwell. Is this normal? I have taken him doctors obviously and she did her checks and said it something viral. But I just want his temperature to go away I keep treating him with nurofen and calpol alongside the antibiotics. Do you give it all the time or when all child is distressed?

I would space the medicines out , don't give at same time. Is the calpol bringing his temp down at all? If it isn't, take him to the hospital. Poor soul, hope he feels better soon xx
