Induction Pain

Im currently 40+3 with no signs of baby. My midwife wants to talk induction, does anyone have any advice on pain levels and effectiveness from the different types? The balloon method sounds very uncomfortable, but seem preferential to the pessary as you can go home after insertion?

I had two pessaries with my first. Neither worked. Dont think baby was ready 😅ended up having to go on the oxytocin drip in the end x

I didn’t have a great experience with my induction but everyone’s different so I wouldn’t want that to put you off! I experienced some pain with the balloon but there were other ladies in the ward that had them that didn’t seem to be in much if any pain at all so it was just my personal experience, that said it dilated me quite quickly and came out within 2 hours, I did still have to get the drip for labour to start but was really effective at getting the ball rolling and definitely didn’t regret getting it x

I had the balloon and cervix softening medication (I forget what it’s called) so ended up staying in hospital for monitoring. The balloon dialated me to around 3 cm and then they started the pitocin to induce contractions after manually breaking my water

with my first I had pessary then 3 gels and they could break my waters but contractions didn't start so then had pitocin drip & got an epidural pretty quickly after that 😅 with my second I went into labour with the pessary, laboured up to 8cm with a tens machine and some codeine but then labour stalled so ended up on the drip and asked for an epidural before they started it that time round!

I had a balloon with my second. It was uncomfortable going in but wasn’t painful. I got cramps a lot with it in but nothing severe was like period pains. Was fine getting it out again. I had it in over night and managed to sleep a bit with it in but was very up and down but that could have been from the fact I was kept in (due to gd not the induction) and was uncomfortable at the hospital. I got my waters broken in the morning about an hour after balloon removed and had baby that night 8.46pm. Was a much nicer experience than natural labour with my first. I did still get an epidural towards the end and did need forceps but I also had forceps with my first- I have big babies 😅 which is why we have opted for a section this time. But honestly the induction wasn’t as bad as all the horror stories I’d heard and I would t be scared of induction again. We just opted for section because I struggle at the end to actually get out big babies 😂 x

I had the balloon last week, had it fitted on the Wednesday at 2.15pm and it came out itself the next morning. I had some discomfort when they fitted the balloon, but used gas and air and it made it much more manageable. Had cramping for a few hours afterwards, just like bad period cramps. It got me to 3cm dilated though!

Navigating anxiety after baby measured small at 20wk scan

Hi everyone, i had my 20 week scan the other day. Everythings looking good but baby is on the smaller side particuarly head and tummy. I have been asked to go back in for a growth scan in 2 weeks time. I have been reassured by other people that some people do juat have smaller babies. My gp also advised i might need extra growth scans as some of my medications can impact growth but shouldnt be a big enough issue to come off the medications as that could have a bigger negative impact. Trying not to feel guilty as some people have smaller babies genetically anyway, i am jusr hoping to see reassuring progress at the next scan. Would appreciate tqlking to people who can relate

Is it just me or does midwives seem rude? My last 2 kids i had normal doctors that I got to knowing 1 on 1 and were nice this baby I have a bunch of different midwives I have to meet and they seem kinda rude.

They are very against alot of things and seem judgemental kinda and not very talkative nor do they smile much. I feel embarrassed even asking questions. I didnt have a choice of hospital wise and of course my hospital is also 1hr away.
