Our daughter turned 1 last week and for the last week (or so) she has been particularly "whiney". When we stop her doing something dangerous (obviously), she tantrums, throws herself back crying and kicking; she wants to climb all over me and is getting a little bitey which she thinks is a game when I say no, but if I move myself/her she whinges and tantrums again; she whinges to be up on my lap but then takes herself down and whinges because she's on the floor; she is screaming to go in the car seat and straightening her back. This is all new behaviour over the last 1-2 weeks. Is this normal for this age? Is it a phase? Is there anything we can do? As a ftm who has just gone back to work, im already feeling guilty and emotional and i cant help but worry that she's unhappy š

Welcome to terrible 2s haha. Itās a misconception that it starts when they are 2 years old, our paediatrician said āit starts in the second year of lifeā.
Our son went through this and still has his moments. But at 2 years old now, he is better at using his words. I remember at 13m I found out I was pregnant again and panicked. Like this toddler cries and has meltdowns and the newborn will have meltdowns, however will I survive?! And then that week he started pointed at things and even that was easier for us to communicate and him communicate his needs.
I think they just understand us so well but canāt communicate themselves. That they get frustrated. And then we try and guess what they want which makes it worse.
Itāll get better when she can communicate (point, sign language, words, etc) more. Iām not saying itāll stop haha. But you definitely learn coping mechanisms and ways to avoid the meltdowns better.
For us providing choice is helpful. Donāt leave yes/no questions or

Haha we have this too. Sooo strong willed but they certainly arent unhappy just more opinionated. Great advice listed above but even then she'll throw a strop. Just redirect/distract as much as you can xx
A little bit of a confession honestly š«£ my little girl is 9 weeks and watches the tv sometimes, only really early in the morning when sheās wide awake but Iām still exhausted or before we do our bedtime bath if sheās being cranky while I do the nightly reset and get all her stuff ready, usually itās just whatever show Iām watching at the time or sometimes Bluey
How much will it actually affect her? Sheās not close to the tv and we wonāt be doing screens like tablets or phones for a long long while, honestly half the time I donāt even think sheās actually watching it but it makes me feel kinda guilty

Hi fellow mums!
Iām a FTM and my little girl is 6 weeks old today. We are exclusively breastfeeding which has been going really well, sheās gained weight beautifully and really healthy in that department.
I know around this time they say babies hit peak fussiness, but I feel like since around 3 weeks most of her awake time she spends crying, for a while I thought maybe it was trapped gas or something like that but we always seem to be able to get that up if there is anything / I am always trying to watch her cues and ensuring she isnāt getting overtired too quickly, and this works most of the time but isnāt always easy when out and about. It always feels like I canāt soothe her or get her to sleep, she just seems to cry when I try, but my partner is able to settle her almost instantly. It makes me really sad because I feel like I canāt soothe her and as her mum I so want to be able to do that, itās worse in the evening too.
Over the past few days she no longer likes her car seat or her pram, which is making me loose my confidence in leaving the house which is having a negative affect on my mental health, I also lost a very close family member 2 days ago so feeling very fragile at the moment and I am just looking for advice from anyone whoās a couple of weeks ahead or anyone whoās been through this before/had similar experiences. I donāt know if sheās just being extra fussy at the moment and always fighting sleep, I donāt know if she can smell my milk or if Iām doing something wrong⦠I just feel a bit deflated.

This is a super specific question for mamas with older kiddos. At what age did you let then have free reign in the house while you showered?
My son is 11.5 months but is fully mobile. I'm usually home alone when I shower. He gets frustrated with being kept in the bathroom with me but is also too squirmy for him to shower with me (plus I don't get in a good shower). On the flip side, I'm terrified that he'll hurt himself if I let him just wander around the house alone, even with baby gates and whatnot.
What do I doooo?

I need to vent. Iām 3 weeks post partum and my son cries sometimes and can be difficult to settle. My mother in law has been very overbearing and whenever my son cries takes him off me to settle him. Itās now got to the point the point where Iām nervous for when my son cries cos I feel everyone looks at me to settle him and when I canāt I feel embarrassed and she comes along and takes him off me. At night when my son is crying, sheāll come into the room and do the same at 3am. I feel like all Iām good for at the moment is breastfeeding him but otherwise Iād be a shit mum. I feel like sheās getting in the way of me bonding with my son and learning my sons cries and habits. I feel really sad and useless :(
