Need some advice! My little girl is 4 weeks old, I want to pump so that my partner can help with the feeds etc I have so many questions I don’t even know where to start ! When should I pump so she still gets enough milk whilst I’m building a supply, how much will she drink ? I don’t want to pump loads and it be wasted. How should I store it ? And do I have to heat it up ? TIA

Hey! I’ve been breastfeeding and pumping for 3 months! I have used a Hakka on the opposite breast while I nurse my LO. That catches your milk, so you can save it. You could also try pumping 30 minutes to an hour after a feeding. They say you produce the most milk in the morning, so maybe try nursing one side and pumping the other. I made my LO 4 oz bottles and let him eat until he was full. At 4 weeks he drank about 3 oz. Every baby is different, so yours may eat more or less. You can store breast milk in the fridge for up to four days. 6 months in a freezer. And 12 months in a deep freeze. Remember breastfeeding is supply and demand so be careful not to pump and nurse too much as you can create an oversupply. It happened to me and now i have way too much stored that I donate to the local hospital

I am going through the same thing right now! Have no idea where to start with what pump to get and when is the best times to pump 🤦♀️

Middke of the night it best, you body produces prolactin best time to pump

Hi Maisy! If you can, I would definitely suggest giving it a couple more weeks before you start pumping. Your body is still learning to regulate to baby’s needs and keeping baby at the breast for all feeds is what’s doing that. Just to avoid problems and protect your milk supply down the line. Once you start, make sure you and hubby know how to pace feed bottles and use the slowest flow nipple. It’s very easy to overfeed with a bottle so remember she needs 1-1.5oz per hour since her last feed and never more than 4 oz in a bottle at a time https://youtu.be/OGPm5SpLxXY
Have you tried a Hakaa? That’s a good way to collect milk while baby nurses and can save you a lot of time and stress.
Giving milk that’s as fresh as possible to baby is always best, but you can store collected milk in the fridge for 4-6 days. If you want to add milk to the same container, just make sure it’s chilled to the same temp before mixing.
