PCOS and Fertility

Hey all! I am new to Peanut. I have always wanted to have a baby, that much I know, but I have been worried I will not be able to carry due to PCOS. I have an appointment with the fertility doctor in October who can give me some insight on what to expect, however, I was interested in seeing others stories. What has been successful in combatting PCOS symptoms and fertility? Anything I need to prepare for? Things I can do health wise? Thank you in advance!

Hi, I have PCOS and am on the same journey on trying to conceive. I was not getting any period naturally after 7 months off the birth control pill. I was referred to a gyno and she has never mentioned about not being able to carry. I think PCOS is one of the more common infertility issues and most women can conceive with some help. I have been listening to lots of PCOS podcasts around naturally getting your body ready, however some of us don’t have the time! So far my gyno has prescribed me metformin (a diabetics drug) this is used to assist with insulin resistance that many PCOS suffers have. She also gave me progesterone so that I would get a bleed and be able to start a cycle with a base line level of hormones. On the 4th day of my cycle I take letrozole (a breast cancer drug) to help stimulate ovulation. I take this for 5 days at the same time each day. I then get an internal ultrasound on the 12th day of my cycle to see how the follicles are going and if I will ovulate.

If ovulation is likely we then use the ovulation test kits to track the peak and ensure that we are having sex on these days. I wish I could say that this has worked for me, but so far I am in my second cycle, so fingers crossed. My sister also suffered from PCOS and was able to get pregnant by using clomid (about 12 years ago). Baby #1 on the first cycle, baby #2 on the second cycle and baby #3 was natural and a complete surprise. So I feel like there is hope. I hope this helps! The gyno said we would try this treatment for 6 months and if not successful try something else. I am unsure what the something else is yet though.

Hi👋 I got diagnosed with PCOS in March. I had a MC in November and In. January stopped getting my regular cycle. They had to put me on progesterone pills to get AF to come. I was determined to not let this control my life, so I started taking myo-instol and dim estrogen balance for the last couple months. Also did a BC detox cleanse before ovulation in combination with drinking fertility raspberry leaf tea. Now I am almost 5 weeks! What I am saying is you can definitely get pregnant, but might just need a little help. 😊

Hi! Welcome 😊 I was diagnosed with PCOS in May and was TTC 6 months before that. After I got off of birth control all the PCOS symptoms showed and I had very irregular periods and irregular ovulation along with some other nasty symptoms like painful acne, oily skin and body hair. The same day I was diagnosed I started Letrozole to help with ovulation. We conceived our first medicated cycle (also using PreSeed). I know not everyone is this lucky with PCOS so I know what a blessing it is. I’m so thankful I saw my doctor sooner than later. Currently 6w4d 🥰 Best of luck to you! It was a painful journey physically and emotionally but worth it all.

My friend has PCOS and has been working with her doctor for four years to get pregnant. She recently begins pregnant is due in December 2020. So, there is hope, the process is long and emotional

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16 and since then I would have maybe one or two periods a year tops! My husband and I had been married for 4 and a half year and hadn’t been using contraception, thinking if it happens it happens but then we got serious about having a baby. So I went to the doctor and was told I had to lose weight, I was given metformin and recommended the fasting diet. I did this for a few week but then was on holiday and had to travel a lot for work and the diet got abandoned. That was in the August, December came along and for the previous few months I had been really tired and feeling a bit lightheaded all the time. I put it down to work stressed but while travelling for work, I found myself retching all the time, so I decided to take a pregnancy test. It came back positive! I couldn’t believe it, I took several pregnancy tests and kept looking online for anything else that could cause a positive result.

I had no idea how far along I was as I hadn’t had a period since the previous January. I went to get a private scan thinking I would be a 8 or 10 weeks tops. I was 16 weeks pregnant and had conceived in August! My daughter was born in May and she is a perfect addition to our lives! It is possible, stay positive and good luck!! 😀

I have PCOS and after various efforts on my own to improve things ended up working with a fertility specialist. It took about a year to find the right combination of medicine to help me ovulate but we did and on my second IUI try I became pregnant! I had a perfect baby girl in December 2018. I breastfed for 5 months and my period never really returned. But much to my surprise we conceived our second child with out trying and absolutely no help somewhere around November/ December.

Thank you all! It is appreciated and definitely a relief that there is hope! Hopefully in October I can start on medication and really start the journey. I was diagnosed just over 10 years ago and it has been a struggle ever since. I have had 1 natural period in my life and from doctors who didn’t believe me to doctors who had no idea what was wrong, it made me feel like it was just me. I have also been told I needed to lose weight and, if I’m honest, I completely know I do! Also looking for workout buddies :) Thank you for sharing your stories with me!

PCOS mama with a little one here!! Also looking for a workout buddy + like minded (🏳️‍🌈) mama friends if interested to connect

I was diagnosed with pcos in 2013. I had a period by myself maybe once a year. My OB that diagnosed me put me on metformin which helped regulate my periods at the time. Now I mostly manage my pcos with diet and exercise because I hate the side effects of metformin. I have three children now. I did have to take progesterone with my first two babies. Pcos is known to cause low progesterone.

Hi. I have had pcos for over 10 years alongside underactive thyroid. My periods have always been irregular and I have never taken any pill or medication other then levothryoxine for my thyroid. Since then I have always tried to have a healthy diet. When I got pregnant on our first go, we had been vegetarian for over a year and cut out a lot of processed sugars and were stress free, I don't know if that made a difference but somehow ended up getting pregnant immediately. I also tried the myo inositol tablets but not for very long as I was unknowingly already pregnant at the time. I know everyone's journey is different and I know how hard it can be, but there are also some positive stories. I do believe stress makes everything 100% times worse so try not to! I wish you the best of luck!

Hey. I was diagnosed with PCOS at around 15/16 and had never had a natural period - only pill induced ones. I stoped taking the pill in 2016 and my husband and I had been trying for a baby since then. Out of nowhere I had my first natural period in April 2019. I then fell pregnant in August. After both my husband and I had done the various scans and tests that they require as a first port of call, I was booked in to see the fertility specialist but found out I was pregnant a week before the appointment! I realise how fortunate I am that I fell pregnant naturally in the end but I was told I had a lot of cysts and I was sure I was going to have to get a lot of help to fall pregnant. So essentially, there is a lot of hope! What I will say is that I have always tried to Follow a low Gi Diet and have always done regular exercise. Not sure how much that played a part but worth trying if you don’t already. Best of luck with it all x

Hey! I have PCOS and I’m currently waiting for my first round of IUI. I was given metformin a few years ago by my doctor and it really helped with my symptoms. My cycles are now super regular, I’ve managed to lose weight for the first time in years and I also feel like o have more energy. I think it’s a bit of a controversial treatment from what I’ve read online but it works for me! X

I have PCOS and after a pregnancy loss, my ob/gyn recommended I start taking Ovasitol, eating a paleo diet (minus things like honey and agave syrup - so no sweeteners) and working to lose weight with some exercise. It sounded daunting and near impossible because I was already eating rather healthy, but after about 2 - 3 weeks, it became second nature. I also decided to buy the OvuSense. I lost about 15 pounds in about 6 months. This was the best advice anyone had ever given me because I am currently almost 18 weeks pregnant with a baby boy!

I was diagnosed about 4 years ago The next few weeks I was pregnant and I also had a child before the diagnosis What I think worked for me was folic acid and prenatal pills There's also something called preseed that I used last year when I got pregnant

Hi I learned that I had PCOS 6 months after I got married and was told concerning would take years. My Dr ran some test and suggested I take the Ivf route and we were lucky on our first try we conceived a healthy baby boy who is now 18months. After my first child, my body quickly went back to irregular periods so I started takin a fertility pill available online https://www.fertility-smart.net/fertilitysmart-conceive-for-women/?setCurrencyId=2&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6uT4BRD5ARIsADwJQ199sk4SxTiD1k3JXHnE_Ti9355amhX6QXr44joDC2wBKJbp4wkMXbYaAmJ4EALw_wcB After taking 3 months worth of these pills. My periods became regular and felt like I had more energy. We then found out we successful conceived naturally and is now expecting our second baby. Highly recommended fertility smart. Good luck

Hiya. I was diagnosed with pcos this year after coming off my implant of 15 years. I wasn’t getting periods and weight gain that was unexplainable and my dr referred me straight away. I have been to see the fertility doctor and I am now on metformin 1500mh a day. Also taking inofolic alpha to help. Hope you get the answers you want xx

My PCOS affected me differently.. i had great difficulty concieving because my ovulation couldn't be tracked and i only had maybe 4 periods a year and they were completely random. But conception was my problem, I had absolutely no trouble carrying to term with a healthy baby.

Hello, I tried for years and years to conceive to no avail, with different medications and fertility support. After practicing a gluten and dairy free diet for 3 months and having good old fashioned sex for the fun of it we conceived and I’m now 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I never ever thought this would happen after so long of trying but it has and it can. Stay positive xxx

Good call on the gluten! I actually have been managing my PCOS for the last 13 years my being gluten free. Mind you, key word is manage, but it has been life changing!

I have PCOS and I am currently pregnant. I did lose 2 babies and had to completely change my diet and life, but it’s been worth is to be so close to having this baby. I was determined to try the natural-ish route before going full fertility support. We literally had our first fertility appointment in LA 2 weeks before finding out we were pregnant with the little girl On my belly now. I did seeding, Whole Foods, plus supplements and gut health products. I started waking everyday and not gonna lie I was the healthiest I’ve ever been before conceiving this baby! I’ve stayed consistent through this pregnancy and haven’t even put on as much weight as I had lost before starting my health journey. My pregnancy has been amazing compared to life with Endo and PCOS. I hope you get as lucky as me! 🥰
