Group chats can be a great way to find support, share experiences and feel less alone. Whether it’s a due-date group, a local crew, or a shared-interest chat, these spaces can help real connections grow.

But where those conversations happen matters. Here’s what to know about group chats, why staying on Peanut helps keep everyone safer, and what we’re working on to make the in-app experience easier.

Why group chats on Peanut are safer

We’re working to improve group chats

Peanut is built on trust, safety, and connection. Group chats play a big role in that. They bring people together around shared experiences and help communities form naturally.

We love seeing these connections grow. Our goal is to make sure they grow in a space where members feel supported and protected.

When group chats move off Peanut

Recently, we’ve seen more group chats created outside of Peanut. Many of these are well-intentioned, but off-app group chats can become risky quickly, especially as they grow.

When conversations happen outside of Peanut:

  • We can’t moderate harmful or inappropriate content
  • We can’t step in if someone is harassed or targeted
  • We can’t take action on reports or remove bad actors

Even if a group starts small and friendly, things can change fast when new people are added or conversations shift.

What information should stay private

We encourage extra caution in large group chats with people you don’t personally know and trust. Some information is best kept private.

That includes:

  • Phone numbers or personal email addresses
  • Photos of your child or family
  • Your exact location, daily routine, or schedule

Protecting your privacy also helps protect your family and your peace of mind.

Why group chats on Peanut are safer

Private messages and group chats on Peanut are designed with safety in mind.

When chats stay in-app:

  • Our moderation team can review reports
  • Content that violates our Community Guidelines can be removed
  • Accounts engaging in harmful behavior can be restricted or removed

This helps keep conversations respectful, supportive, and safer for everyone involved.

We’re working to improve group chats

We hear your feedback. We know group chats on Peanut need to be easier to use and better suited for growing communities.

That’s why we’ve already started rolling out updates, including voice notes! Our team is continuing to work on improvements to the group chat experience, with safety and usability at the center. As new updates become available, we’ll share more directly in the app and on the blog.

In the meantime, keeping group chats on Peanut helps us support you if something goes wrong.

We love seeing friendships form here. Staying connected on Peanut helps us protect the community we’re building together.

Thank you for being part of it 💛
