East Asian Mums

I’m Chinese myself and based in the UK in Oxfordshire. I couldn’t find a group for us East Asians and so had to create one. I was born in UK but have very strong roots to my Chinese background. During these covid times, we definitely need even more support from each other. Anyone is welcome; you might be East Asian or a different ethnicity altogether but interested in our culture or would just like to connect with other Asians. Anything really. Looking forward to meeting new mums 😊

Postpartum soup recipe

Hello! I am half chinese, grew up mostly with the Chinese side but my mum is the youngest, she doesn't know recipes! One of my aunt made an amazing soup for people who are recovering with ginger and yellow wine I think. Unfortunately she's no longer with us. Do you know what soup she's talking about, and more importantly how I can make it?? I'm going to Taiwan soon so wanted to get the ingredients as I assume they might be harder to get in the UK where I live

Helping my daughter connect to culture as she grows- advice?

Hi! Single mom to my two month old princess 🥰. She is my world. I am entirely white (Sámi, to be specific) and her father is Chinese and Indigenous Taiwanese. His family speaks Mandarin and Korean. I’m currently learning both languages, but aside from that, I’d really like to hear from other moms that share her culture on how to best keep it in her life. Unfortunately, father and his family will be quite distant in the future, as they have a history and some issues to work out amongst themselves. So, it’s up to me! I am going to look into some Chinese learning schools, which will be helpful when she’s older. I already know how to cook quite a lot of cultural dishes as well, though primarily Korean (learned from her father’s mom, who technically grew up in Korea) and Japanese cuisine (just my favorite lol). I am just so afraid of her feeling separated from her identity not having her father around… Do you think I should keep up with traditional holidays? I’m nowhere near opposed, and like celebrating / sharing events like that, but don’t want to be seen as trying too hard, or appropriating in any way. I would also love for her to be able to make other friends who she feels a resemblance to, so she can feel more comfortable once she’s in school. Any advice helps!!

Herbal soups safe for pregnancy?

Hi, does anyone know if these are safe to consume during pregnancy? My mum used to make these often, when our energy was low and I’m definitely feeling low energy right now!

Does anyone have any recommendations for English and Mandarin-speaking confinement nannies?

I’m English-Chinese mixed and my dad (in Beijing) is keen for me to 坐月子. I’m in two minds about it but honestly, confinement sounds like a nice time to bond with my baby and recover!

I also have ME/CFS so looking for a confinement lady to help seems sensible - the only thing is that all I’ve found so far is expensive “introduction agencies” charging thousands just to make a referral.
