Matrescence is the profound physical, emotional, hormonal, psychological, relational, and social transition into motherhood.
Much like adolescence, it is a developmental phase — one that reshapes not only the body, but a woman’s identity, relationships, priorities, and sense of self.
In this conversation, we’ll explore the often-unspoken realities of the time immediately before and after birth: the identity shifts, the physical and emotional changes, the evolving dynamics within partnerships and families, and the tension between who we were and who we are becoming.
We’ll also discuss the modern loss of the “village” that once surrounded mothers — and how we can intentionally rebuild support, community, and connection in today’s world. Together, we’ll talk about asking for help, seeking resources, creating sustainable support systems, and navigating motherhood in a way that honors both mother and child.
Because matrescence is not a phase we simply “get through.” Once we become mothers, we are continually evolving. And how we are supported — or unsupported — in the earliest stages can profoundly shape our well-being, resilience, relationships, and health for years to come.
