You’ve probably heard that: đŸ”șit’s more common (and necessary) for first-time moms đŸ”ș if you don’t get an episiotomy you’ll tear (which is much worse) đŸ”șit’s a decision for your doctor to make - so you shouldn’t bother wasting your time thinking about it.

âœłïž Spoiler: None of that is accurate, truthful, or evidence-based.

We’ll discuss the procedure, the history, how you can approach the conversation with your practitioner, and what you can do to decrease the chances of tearing (or needing an episiotomy).

We can also spend some time on IV’s, continuous fetal monitoring, rupturing membranes (artificially breaking your water) and more.
