Mine checked at 37 weeks

Avatar

Mine is starting tomorrow 38 weeks

Avatar

Mine is tomorrow and I’m 40 weeks +2 days

Avatar

With my previous its always been when I have been 40 weeks exactly or just after.

Avatar

You don't ever have to get checks if you don't want them. I think I got my first one at 38 weeks, but it didn't help at all. They thought I could go any day based on that exam. I was 40+2 when I went into labor. 😒

Avatar

We will check at 37 and start stripping if needed. My car pain tunnels are killing me

Avatar

When at the hospital.

Avatar

They started doing it at around 30 for me. I’m high risk.. they old did it once to make sure I wasn’t dilating

Avatar

My midwife said she wouldn’t give me one unless I’d like to have one because it’s not necessary unless baby is over due or you’re in labor. Plus they can kinda hurt when your cervix is super soft and my vulva is swollen and tender. So we’re just letting it go till labor starts. My 35 week ultrasound did show effacement, and I’m approaching 37 weeks now.

Avatar

Don’t do it unless you feel there’s movement/pressure giving you reason to believe you might be giving birth soon. The check is highly uncomfortable. I had the option to get it at 38 wks, but I had no reason to so I waited. At 39 I felt a lot going on and had a check. I was 1 cm. Went into labor 4 days later. The check is ugh 😣 do not recommend it.

Avatar

I opted out of all cervical exams. I was check right when I felt the desire to push and I was 10 cm when she checked.

Avatar

38

Avatar

I had it checked at 37 and 39 weeks

Avatar

During labor, I asked at 36 weeks or so and he said too soon.

Avatar

38+6 was my first internal check 😊 I think they usually offer after sort of 37-38 weeks. X

Avatar

36 weeks

Avatar

At my 39 week appointment 1 day before due date and ended up having induction that day due to baby size 4.3 kgs/9.5 lbs. Makes zero sense to be checked for dilation unless there is a concern or you are having signs of labor or at hospital getting induction. Seems it makes women paranoid "omg im 37 weeks and not dilated at all". Well you are not supposed to be, and when labor starts you can go from 0 to 10cm in less than 24 hrs. And you will feel the labor...baby will not just fall out of you.

Avatar

Never and not even in labour (my baby came very fast they didn't have time to do it)
Tbh during pregnancy I would refuse it if I was to have a 2nd it creates a risk of infection

Avatar

I am not having it checked until later this week (40 weeks). My doctor said it’s unnecessary and just causes discomfort and there’s no point if you’re not having any labor signs of contractions so I have waited! But I’m sure they’ll check this week and next and then go from there. You can most def decline!

Avatar

I am 40+2 and not had anything internal. My last appointment was at 39+6 and midwife she won’t do anything to low risk ladies before 40 weeks but she would happily try for a sweep at my 41 week appointment. She wanted me to go away research it before she did anything to make sure it’s what I wanted and gave me some recommendations.
I think a lot of midwives prefer as little intervention and faffing as possible if you’re low risk xx

Avatar

Never

Avatar

37 weeks, was induced at 38, at which point I think everyone stuck there fingers in my lady bits at least once a day!

Avatar

36 weeks

Avatar

They offered it to me starting at 37 weeks and I didn't know anything about it so I said yes, but I will likely refuse another one until there's a better reason

Avatar

I had to ask to have my cervix checked, it's not routine at my OB, my first check was at 39 weeks because I went in to L&D because of patterned contractions.

Avatar

I was going to start to get offered for my twin pregnancy past my anatomy scan as it was only routine to do it in the latter half of pregnancy. I wish I had asked sooner as I lost my twins AT 20+4, just this past Wednesday to incompetent cervix. No symptoms, no warning, we just happened to catch it at our anatomy scan and by that point it was too late.

Avatar

36 onwards

Avatar

They offered it starting at 36 weeks but it's optional and doesn't really tell you anything. It's so uncomfortable and your cervix can open and close all day if it felt like it or stay the same for weeks.

Avatar

my doctor asked me at 36 weeks if i would like her to check my cervix

Avatar

This has been disproven as a reliable indicator of labor onset. Plus it carries a slight risk of infection and discomfort for the mother. My OB practice doesn't even do it anymore because there is no need/point until you are already in active labor.

Avatar

Never with either pregnancy

Avatar

Never, didn’t even know they did this

Avatar

Can I ask something dumb? A doctor “checking your cervix” is that the same thing as doing a sweep? Or is that two different things

Avatar

I was told she will do it at 35 weeks skip 36 and 37 (unless I request it) and check again at 38.

Avatar

I will decline it this pregnancy. It’s super uncomfortable ughh! I was 36 to 38 weeks.

Avatar

I got this done last week at 36 weeks. Then it felt like I had uti for 2 days (burning when peeing). Then I remembered the same thing happened with my last pregnancy. I think I will skip it from here on out.

Avatar

Not opting for this at all, as it gives you no idea what’s going on and is invasive for no reason. People can keep their fingers out of my vagina thank you, unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Avatar

Never

Avatar

I didn't get checked with my last until I was in labour, and then I only got checked twice. I was in early labour for 7 days so I got checked on day 3, and then I got checked once when my midwife got to me during active labour

Avatar

Ah, not until the appointment where I was induced.

Sometimes a midwife will offer a stretch and sweep at 40 weeks, which would involve an exam. There's no reason to do it earlier.

Avatar

i got checked for the first time at 38 weeks, they don’t do checks unless you’re coming in when you’re in labor or you ask, i wanted to know if anything was happening so i requested to be checked

Avatar

Never got offered one

Avatar

I’ve had 2 babies, born at 39w and 39w3d and I never had a cervical check. I won’t with this baby either. There is absolutely zero need in most cases and any progress/lack thereof can be very misleading. But of course ask your provider if this is something you want.

Avatar

They should check it at 20-24 weeks through ultrasound. Usually they don't say anything if it's long and closed. I lost a baby at 21 weeks because the doctor didn't check it at all and I later was diagnosed with incompetent cervix when they checked it at 20 weeks with my next pregnancy.

Avatar

I never got a cervical exam until I was 10 cm dilated lol and actively pushing. It was part of my birth plan to be checked as little as possible if it wasn't medically necessary, but I know freestanding birth centers operate a little differently than hospitals.

Avatar

36 weeks checked and I was already 4cm dilated- did a sweep then too. The sweep didn’t work. Got checked again at 38 weeks and I was still 4cm. Got induced on my due date-came I’m still at 4cm-broke my water and started pitocin. Then labored for 4 hours and pushed for less than 20 :)

Avatar

36 weeks but only because my blood pressure was concerning. Then at 39 and 40 weeks

Avatar

I got one at 39 weeks but only because I asked for one because I was curious

Avatar

I pass my due date which was on July 6 and went for my doctor appointment 2 days later. She checked me with her finger and said I was still closed. I don't why I'm still closed or not even dilating yet. I'm getting so frustrated and impatient with this entire pregnancy.😢😢

Avatar

Got mine checked last Friday for the first time I’m 38 wks.. so prob 38-40 they asked if I wanted one at 37 I said no

Birth trauma

I’ve been wanting to share my C-section experience for a while, but I honestly haven’t really known how to put it into words. I think part of the reason is because I’m still processing it myself.

I went into labor on my own and ended up being in active labor for about 18 hours. I had always imagined that if I ever had a baby, I would go through labor, push, and then immediately have my baby placed on my chest. Obviously, I knew C-sections existed and that sometimes they were necessary, but I never really imagined that would be my birth story.

After 18 hours of labor, it became clear that my baby wasn’t going to be able to safely make it through my pelvis. I remember being told that we needed to do a C-section, and I had so many emotions all at once. I was exhausted and scared, but more than anything, I think I was grieving the birth I had pictured in my head.

The surgery itself was such a surreal experience. I was awake, but everything felt almost dreamlike. And then suddenly they told me she was out.

My daughter was born, and I heard her cry.

I thought that would be the moment when everything changed and I finally got to hold her.

But it didn’t happen that way.

Because of everything that happened after the surgery, it was about THREE HOURS before I was actually able to hold my own baby.

Three hours.

I know that in the grand scheme of things, three hours isn’t forever. She was safe, and there were reasons for it. But emotionally, those three hours felt enormous. I had just spent nine months carrying this baby, 18 hours laboring to bring her into the world, gone through major surgery, and then I was lying there knowing my baby was somewhere else and I couldn’t hold her.

When I finally got to hold her, I was completely overwhelmed. I remember looking at her and thinking, “That’s my baby.” I couldn’t believe she was actually here. After everything, she was finally in my arms.

But something I didn’t expect was how much I would struggle afterward with feeling like I didn’t actually give birth.

I’ve caught myself thinking, “I didn’t give birth to her. They took her out of me.”

And I know that’s not true. Logically, I know that I gave birth to my daughter. I labored for 18 hours. I went through major abdominal surgery. My body carried her for nine months and then went through an incredibly difficult physical recovery to bring her safely into the world.

But emotionally, it hasn’t always felt that way.

I think part of it comes from not getting that immediate moment I had imagined. I didn’t get to push her out and have her placed on my chest. I didn’t get to immediately hold her after she was born. I didn’t get that picture-perfect “baby on mom’s chest” moment that I had always associated with giving birth.

Instead, I woke up afterward with an incision, pain, exhaustion, and this tiny baby who I desperately wanted to hold.

I’ve had moments where I feel like my body failed me because I couldn’t deliver her vaginally. Even though I know that’s not fair to myself, those feelings have still been there.

I’m slowly trying to change the way I think about it.

My body didn’t fail me.

My body grew my daughter. My body labored for 18 hours. My body endured major surgery when a vaginal birth wasn’t safe. My body recovered enough for me to get up, walk, care for her, and become her mom.

I didn’t get the birth story I imagined.

But I absolutely gave birth to my baby.

A C-section doesn’t make someone less of a mother, and it doesn’t mean we didn’t give birth. Sometimes giving birth looks like pushing. Sometimes it looks like enduring hours of labor and then being wheeled into an operating room. Sometimes it looks like being terrified and trusting a team of people to get your baby out safely.

And sometimes it looks like lying there for three hours desperately waiting to hold the baby you’ve spent nine months waiting for.

I’m still processing everything, and I still have moments where I struggle with it. But I’m trying to give myself the same grace that I would give another mom.

I didn’t fail.

I gave birth to my daughter.

And after everything, she is here. She’s safe. She’s mine. And I would do it all over again for her. ❤️ I’d love to hear other experiences

I am going to CRY

My beautiful, curious twin boys spilled a bottle of bubbles all over a carpet that’s supposed be waterproof.
LIES!
Bubbles went thru the carpet and on to the chestnut wood flooringggg 😭 I dried it up, used a gentle cleanser but the rug is still soaked even after drying and patting with 1000 towels.
This carpet is effing huge and heavy. What do I do? Has this happened to you?

A Keep the wet part of the carpet flipped up till it dries out?

B Scream into the void

C suggestions?

NHS elective c section

This is baby no 5.

I nearly had a c section with my first but in theatre after the longest labour ever I said could I try normal birth no idea why but I was out of it by that point she was in distress. Anyway they said ok and ventouse and epiestomy (think that’s the right term large cut) and she was born.

With the other 3 natural births gas and air… very quick labour and massive tearing with a shed load of blood and then stitches. I suspect it’s because of the scar tissue from the original cut 👀

I can’t go through that again. I’ve asked for an elective c section. Midwife thinks it will be no problem but I’m wondering if anyone else had issues requesting one ?

Also what’s the rules around partners. And days you need to stay in ?

Has this happened to anyone else after sex?

Whenever my husband and I have sex he gets a stinging sensation afterwards. (We always wear condoms because I'm not using any other type of contraception. We are both clear of any STI/Ds)

He says it doesn't happen if he doesn't pee before sex, but if he pees beforehand, it will sting after.

Does anyone else know what this is, have a similar experience?

It really ruins the mood as he can't cuddle or go to sleep after sex and needs to get up out of bed and sit downstairs/distract himself until it subsides.

We were having sex last night and went for a 2nd round and he had to stop halfway because the stinging came on.

He says because he knows its because of peeing he doesn't want to go see a doctor, I think he's just embarrassed

Mucus plug

I’m 37 weeks pregnant on Tuesday with my second and I’m pretty sure I’ve lost some of my mucus plug in pieces.

Does that mean labour is coming very soon or could it still be weeks away?
