I have a dental appointment today and was told they would be doing an X-ray. This is my first pregnancy and I’m wondering if any other mamas have had this done while pregnant and if people think it’s safe?
The appointment is non-urgent so I could always cancel it.

Following as I’m due a dental check up too and wondering the same x

I actually just had dental X-rays today and I’m 13 weeks pregnant. My dentist had my OBGYN fax over an approval for dental work and X-rays. For the X-rays they just recommended I wear a double shield over abdomen during them!

I went for mine a few weeks ago and they made a comment about it being a good thing that they did X-rays last time because they wouldn’t have done them now so I’m assuming they’ll just skip the X-rays when you tell them you’re pregnant and they’ll still do the cleaning or whatever

I've been having crazy dental issues since being pregnant and got clearance from my OB to get x-rays as long as I had a double sheild. My dentist wrapped me up in 3 led sheilds and I've had x-rays twice since being pregnant. You will probably just need clearance from your doctor

I researched this prior to my last appt just incase and everything I read said it’s safe so long as you’re wearing the lead vest. My dentist office didn’t do anything questionable due to the pregnancy though and I needed a dr release note. So maybe ask your doctor if you’re unsure or tell your dentist office you’re not comfortable getting X-rays until after the pregnancy.

I just went to the dentist a few days ago. I wasn’t sure, so told them I’m pregnant and opted out of X-rays.

I went in and my dentist said he prefers not too unless he sees an immediate concern. Unfortunately I had an issue. He doubled shielded me and only took an x-ray of that 1 tooth not a full set.

Please don't take them. I am a dental Hygienist and discourage any xrays during pregnancy. I would not do it myself so I would never ask my patients to do it either especially not for a checkup

As long as it’s not first trimester you’re fine. I had to forgo them because I went in my first trimester. Going back in my third in the spring and I should be able to get them then.

My midwife told me with how specific and localized the X-rays are, there should be no risk at all to the baby.

Thank you all so much!

Im 11 weeks i can tell you everything is extremely safe if you feel uncomfortable they can push your appts later in your trimesters but i have a few im still on first trimester im perfectly fine risk is low
