Hi all. We’re in the middle of our first IVF round. We had egg collection this Wednesday, the 13th of July, and retrieved 4 eggs (had 7 mature follicles).
I was devastated with this result as I was expecting a lot more and I’m very aware of the drop-off rate following a collection.
In our day one update, we found out that four out of four eggs were mature, and three fertilised normally with ICSI.
Tomorrow is our day three update and I am terrified of a further drop off. Plus we then have to make it to day five.
I’m posting in the hope of hearing IVF/ICSI success stories where a small number of eggs were collected and made it to day five blast.

Question. I’m doing IUI but might have to do IVF. Do they charge by the number of eggs or just by the procedure itself

The clinics will charge for the procedure regardless of number of eggs collected.
Some clinics will give you the price which includes monitoring visits (blood work and ultrasound) and the retrieval. In some clinics you will be charged for anesthesia too. Some clinics include also at least one transfer but many will charge for any transfer separately.
Medications and pgt testing are a separate expense.

Ok. I’m praying I’m pregnant but this might be a future choice. I don’t have problems with eggs and them maturing, the spermicide just won’t meet my eggs. Lol

Hi Taylor, numbers vary so much person to person, it’s not always a good guide for what will happen for you. That being said, you are in with a good chance of getting to transfer.
Our experience with numbers has been:
Cycle 1; ovulated early, no eggs collected from the attempted retrieval.
Cycle 2; 2 eggs collected from 4 follicles, both fertilised, 1 grade A blast at day 5, transfer failed.
Cycle 3; 3 eggs collected from 5 follicles, 2 fertilised normally, both made it to day 5 as a grade B and a grade B/C. Grade B transferred and now 15 weeks pregnant. One frozen embryo.
It’s going to be a long few days, I found keeping busy with things that calmed me and I enjoyed was a big help. I also repeated to myself what we currently had to focus on what I knew that day, such as “today I have one in the running”.
Really hope your day 3 update is good news. Xx

Collected 4, 2 mature, 2 fertilised, 1 not good enough to freeze, the remaining one transferred fresh. I'm currently doing a night feed with my almost 10 week old baby girl. It really does only take 1. Best of luck.

I was surprised to only get 3 at collection, only 1 of which fertilised, but it was a lucky little emby as it made it all the way to day 5 and I'm now 14w! It really is quality not quantity. I know it's such a horrible wait - the worst bit of the process I thought - we were a mess for days putting all our hope on that one little egg, but I'm sure your lucky emby is in there too 💛

Update - Day 3 - We have 3 embryos going strong. 🥺 2 have 8 cells and 1 has 4. I’m cautious still, especially about the latter, but our embryologist said that it could catch up. Transfer booked for Monday morning. Praying they all make it. ❤️

Amazing news. Got everything crossed for you!

I retrieved 12, only 7 were mature, 3 of which fertilized via ICSI. I was of course devastated with those numbers! But…2 made it to day 5. My first fresh transfer failed. I went straight into a medicated FET with my only embryo left. Got my BFP at 8dp5dt. And when I was 7 weeks along, I got the surprise of my lifetime…identical twins! Turns out my embryo split:) currently 11 weeks! I always used to to hear, quality over quantity and boy did that ring true in my case! I know the numbers can be disheartening but keep faith and trust the process. Never in a million years did I think I’d be in this position, but I’m so glad I kept at it. Praying for you!! You got this! 💕🙏🏼

I hope this makes you feel better - I had a large no. Of eggs, still translated into only 3 on ice.
Consultatant said it was disappointing, but just genetics ie. really not something you can control.
Sending you all the best 🤍

It such a hard time, with all waiting and nothing to do. Waiting for phone call it so hard. If help I've had 1 cycle, and 7 eggs collect, 7 matured however only 2 fertilized. However both made it day 5 Blastocyst. We transfer one fresh however it did not take💔. Currently in a FET with our frozen day 5 Blastocyst. Hang in there💕

I had 34 collected, 32 matured, 15 fertilised by ICSI, only 3 made it to blasto. Mine had to be freezed, so only the highest quality ones were kept. Not sure how many would have been OK if I was doing transfer immediately.

Definitely don’t stress!! I wasted a lot of angst stressing. I’ve done two cycles, here are the results:
Cycle 1 - 16 follicles, 9 eggs collected, 5 fertilised, 3 5-day blastocysts
Cycle 2 - 6 follicles, 5 eggs collected, 4 fertilised, 2 5-day embryos (1 transferred, waiting to test!!).
Almost the same result with 6 follicles as I did with 16!
Sometimes less eggs collected means better quality and a better outcome. You definitely only need one 🙏🏽

Hi from my ER I had 10 mature eggs, 8 fertilized with ICSI, 4 made it to day 5, and genetic testing resulted in 3 normal embryos. Two boys and a girl. My FET is two weeks away, but as the saying goes, it only takes one ❤️🤞🏼

Collected 9, fertilised 3, currently 30 weeks pregnant ❤️. Best of luck in the world 🍀 🍀 🍀

Hi, I also only got 4 but none of them fertilised with IVFso hoping for the next round to do ISCI do ye think this will give a better chance?

ICSI is fab isn’t it! First cycle we collected 18 then 10 fertilised and 7 day 5 blasts. Successful first fresh transfer and due soon! We didn’t test them the consultant just put back “the best one” (what ever that means)
Numbers mean nothing and only cause stress.
It only takes one :) I wish you all the best

hey , did you get your embryo tested ?

No, I’m in the U.K. and it doesn’t seem to be “the norm” to do genetic testing until there’s been quite a few failed transfers or other factors at play.
