Can someone help me? Please read 😭💔

I presume they’ll schedule a colonoscopy and endoscopy which can pick up a number of things , so easy to say not to think the worse but there are so many things it could be that aren’t cancer

Okay, let’s look at what the test measures and its accuracy. Since it detects blood in the stool, that could come from several causes… hemorrhoids (including internal), inflammation, polyps, or cancer. So there are multiple less concerning possibilities.

Next, the numbers… it has high specificity (90s), meaning if it finds blood, it’s usually real—but not necessarily from cancer. Sensitivity is lower (around 70–80%), so it catches many cancers, but not all.

Translation: A positive result means blood was found, not the cause.
In practice… only about 3–10% of people with a positive FIT test have colorectal cancer—more often it’s polyps or other benign causes.
So, overall… all you know right now is there’s blood in the stool. I’d try to hold onto that and not catastrophize (easier said than done) while waiting to learn more.

I tried to do both without sedation , managed the colonoscopy with gas and air but had to go back for the endoscopy another time and get the sedation , the endoscopy is over so quick , it felt like seconds. If I had a colonoscopy again I would get the sedation only as when they go round the bends it’s quite uncomfortable. I’m not entirely sure the sedation did much for me but I know someone who fell asleep and doesn’t remember a thing! But it might not even come to that , have they done other poo samples and bloods etc ?

I had a situation like this and it was a bleeding ulcer. It is nothing until it is something. With that being said, I was also diagnosed with Gerd and gastroparesis. Yes, it sucks, but it’s not the end of the world. If it was super urgent, they would’ve given you one of their sick visit appointments and had you come in that day.

Honestly I constantly have traces of blood, I had a colonoscopy to check everything and a pill size camera that I swallowed too to check my upper digestive tract. It confirmed an IBD but not clear which one, the blood traces were confirmed as being only from hemmeriods/external fissure which put my mind at ease. If you are in the UK you can ask for sedation for the colonoscopy, you are still awake but surprisingly feel very little, or remember very little. I had an endoscopy once without anything and had to stop it part way through so it was inconclusive - I deffo recommend the sedation. The prep is the worst part for me to be honest. But over all I wouldn't worry until there is something to start worrying about, bleeding can occur in the bowels for a variety of reasons and not all are that sinister

My mom had it similar...for her it was ulcerative colitis.
But like others have mentioned...its nothing until your doctor tells you what it is.

Went for my appointment today and the Dr has requested an urgent colonoscopy. Said I could have it under sedation and they will try to treat what they find there and then (if it's polyps or hemaroids) honestly I'm really not looking forward to it. Positive not is that he said my number wasn't obscenely high and is most likely polyps or hemaroids

This sounds really positive. As they said polyps are easily dealt with there and then. I've never have my hemmeriods treated and usually get told to use creams or suppositories so if they do deal with them that's great.

I hope it all goes ok and at least they are addressing it as soon as possible.
