I grew up in Finland and my husband is obsessed with Nordic names. However, after looking into naming laws in California where we live, we learned that a lot of things are not allowed - like non-English characters, accents, and apostrophes. I’m having a hard time liking the way these names will be pronounced by English speakers, any ideas on Nordic sounding names that won’t sound weird in English?

Lumi ❤️ or names like Torsten, Leif. I like Estrid for a girl! (Although in the UK it is the name of a razor brand which comes from Sweden)

For Finnish names (at least according to the internet!) a few I’ve seen that I like are Tuuli, Hilla, and Ilta for girls and Valo and Vesa for boys.
Some other Nordic names I think would work well in English:
Arvid, Stellan, Eilo, Solan
Runa, Linnea, Liv, Alva/Ylva, Astrid, Ingrid/Inga
I also think Solveig is so pretty but people would probably struggle to pronounce it

Try 'baby name together' app. They have a setting for countries and have a lot of beautiful Finnish names!

My nephew is called Matheus, Swedish version of Matthew basically, friends of ours use the same name in the U.K. and seem fine in terms of pronounciation. Could do Matt or Mateo for short

I am Annika, Swedish name. I am in UK, everyone calls me Annie. It’s nice having a unique name but it’s definitely Nordic

My son is called Magnus, I like that it was uncommon (in the UK) but easy to pronounce 🙏🏼
