Natural Birth - Not at a hospital. How did you pay for it??

I’m due with my second and just do noooot want to deliver in a hospital. My first was kind of traumatic (super sucky LD nurse) and I really want to do something different. I found a birthing center that I LOVE, but it’s out of network for my insurance. We’d have to pay double out of pocket, even tho the overall costs are half 🥲 jw if anyone else ran into this and if they were able to squeeze more out of their insurance.

I'm also delivering at a birthing center. My insurance will only cover about $500 of the $5000 bill. We are making payments leading up to the birth to make it more manageable. If I had gone with a hospital it would have been $2000 max out of pocket but to us the birthing center is worth it and we are blessed to be able to afford it. I completely understand your frustration though. I was so sad to learn insurance wouldn't cover it

Birth center birth is just spa style hospital birth, most mothers end up paying out of pocket just to get risked out, transferred, or violated just as they would have been in the hospital unfortunately.

That is not entirely true, and doesn’t answer my question. Just gotta do your research!

Hey Sarah, I’m running in to the same problem! I had no idea that at home and birthing center births were actually a thing of privilege. It’s sad that not being able to come up with thousands of extra dollars in a matter of months on top preparing for baby forces so many women in to laboring at a hospital. Currently in the same boat and will be talking with our doctor about it at my first appointment on November 30th. Will keep you in the loop on what they say. Best of luck, hopefully more helpful comments come through 🖤
