I am a first time mum - have had zero signs of labour, no braxton hicks, belly hasn’t dropped either (despite baby being in position). My cervix is still closed so I have provisionally booked induction for Sunday (which I’m really hoping to avoid and hope baby comes out without). Does anyone have any positive stories where there was really overdue, ready for induction but then out of the blue they were about to go into labour without induction?

EDIT: I did start to lose my mucus plug a couple of days before I was induced so if I’d held on a little longer, things may have started naturally.
I was in the exact same position as you. I eventually did have an induction at 41+6 (baby born 42+1). So, can’t share anything positive about going into labour naturally but stressing about what week and day I was on and about having an induction didn’t help at all to get the oxytocin flowing. If you are not keen on induction, talk to your midwife/consultant about the options, usually they’ll regularly monitor you and baby if you reach 42 weeks and haven’t delivered (in the UK anyway). Due dates are tortuous in that way and baby doesn’t know when it’s “supposed” to arrive. Easier said than done but I would just say to try and stay as relaxed as possible (watch a feel-good film, have a bubble bath) and forget about dates. You can always reassess come Sunday X

My cervix was soft and long but closed at 40+4, as midwife was unable to complete a sweep, went into labour naturally 2 days later at 40+6, then had baby at 41 weeks! I was due to be induced on the day I had baby which was lucky. I had no real signs of anything either, a bit of cramping in and off the day before, but went on a 45 min walk and did some kerb walking to wiggle things down 😂 good luck!
