Baby hitting/slapping bottle

LO is 6 months and has always combi fed and can drink milk from a bottle without a problem. In the last few days, we’ve noticed that towards the end of his bottle, he’ll start hitting/slapping the bottle with his hands. What does this mean? I initially thought it meant he was full so I’ve taken the bottle from him and put it to the side but then he reaches for it again. Then I thought he needed to burp so did that for him. Neither of these seem to be the answer. I’ve tried these both on several occasions. Anyone have any ideas? Do your LOs do this?

My son did this when he was a bit younger, and it seemed to be that he was getting frustrated with the flow.....I think breastfed babies do something similar to try and stimulate more milk! Might be worth trying going up a nipple size so he can get the milk a bit quicker

@Vicki thanks! Yes, he does hit/slap my breast sometimes when he gets frustrated. I forgot to mention that we moved him to fast flow teats last week as he was getting frustrated with medium flow ones. He seemed great with the fast flow ones for a few days and then started doing this hitting/slapping thing!

my son just hit 9 mo and exclusively formula fed& i’ve come to realize that the hitting is a sensory thing. i think BF babies do something on a similar level to the breast.

Yeah, my 5 month old baby boy has been doing it for a while. I was thinking I was feeding him too fast, maybe change bottles, the nipple he does not like, give milk directly from boob instead thru the bottle. I learned it could be excitement or aware that they are eating or getting in control of their hands. I think it is very cute my baby is so strong and aggressive.
