Postnatal retreat near London

I can’t seem to find any postnatal retreats anywhere except for several that now are closed. I’m looking for a type like .Boram in NYC with midwife on site but it seems England is so far behind on these services ☹️
Maybe someone knows more places 🙏

I haven’t heard of them before but what a great idea. I think postnatal care is backwards here, just a rush to get back to work and pre baby body and no mention of rest and rehabilitation after the huge event our body has been through. Sorry to be no help but if you do find anywhere please share. Might be worth mentioning on midwife and birth doulas group x

What an excellent idea this would be! I’ve never heard of one but wow, could I have used something like this after my first daughter was born. I’m very scared that history will repeat itself and my PND will return. However as a second time mum, I feel slightly more confident in my ability and will speak up when needed.
Perhaps some Mummas who are interested in this could come together and arrange a weekend together, to support one another, creating a safe space to be open with our struggles and feelings? xxx

If anyone wondering what I’m talking about just like and . These type of hotels are hugely popular in Asia. Best ones probably in South Korea and China. And it’s not just a few days either but 2 weeks to a month!
There are lots of videos on YouTube that make me truly jealous 😭
And my friend in New York is staying at one right now - and it’s great.

This is the only one I found in UK so far https://andbreathewellbeing.com
But it’s basically normal hotel with Pilates and fitness without specialists staff and no midwives.

I’m sure they have it but the cost must be crazy 😂😂 I called them 2 months ago cause I was very sick I needed 24h care, they told me that it will cost 4K per night 😨

Hey ladies such a wonderful concept.. not done in the UK effectively because we have the NHS something I’ve thought about during my pregnancy based on something my dad actually said to me about the first 40 days postpartum… which got me thinking how much would your pay for a service like boram? It’s an amazing concept I do believe this should just be a standardised thing but understand constant care cost money to provide so what would be the maximum amount you would pay for 3 days /7 days / 40 days? ❤️

Specific postnatal retreats are not done in the U.K., great idea and popular elsewhere as others have said, but very expensive and not accessible for all. Gap in the market for a hotel to offer something like this. However, private hospitals do offer their patients the option to stay afterwards (Portland, the Kensington wing etc) but again, incredibly pricey I can imagine. NHS wise, I won’t be leaving the hospital until I’ve seen someone about breastfeeding support and then also they do follow up visits or ask us to bring baby back in. So, the right minimum level of care is in place for all. My “postnatal retreat” will be with my mother and husband at home! They better be prepared to pamper me! 😂

so in HongKong the price for a really good hotel for a whole month is £6k-£14k
I think it’s very realistic especially since they provide full cratering and baby facilities.

And also big hotel names like Ritz, Four seasons, Sino hotels, etc are doing those month postpartum care. 🥺

If my husband could have moved his job location i would have gone to Hong Kong to the rest of his family. But since the flight is dangerous in late pregnancy and with a newborn- it’s not an option.

Avatar

yeah I’ve looked in Portland and it’s incredibly pricey. £6000 for a few nights in London or a whole month elsewhere ☹️ and the facilities are not even included!

thank you! That’s probably the only realistic way.

Picking this chain back up as the most fulfilled mama back from honestly the most unbelievable postpartum retreat with The Tenth who are situated in the Mandarin Oriental on Hyde Park.
Round the clock midwife care, holistic practitioners, therapists, councillors, pelvic floor specialist - everything you could ever dream of.
I went just a week postpartum but there were other mamas there who were much further down the line and just yearned for proper sleep and hands on baby support whilst they recieved some v deserved downtime. Honestly can’t recommend enough. Especially with gorgeous but busy toddler at home - this really allowed me time and space to allow baby no 2 a soft landing and to bond.
It’s not cheap but way more affordable than prices mentioned here. Tallying up the suite and treatments alone more than pays for itself let alone all the hands on expert midwifery support! Xx https://www.tenthwellness.com

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
