I’ve just made the decision to stop breastfeeding and I’m trying to get my head around bottle making when out and about.
I’ve seen that you need to do a hot shot, just like the prep machine.
However, I’ve also seen instructions on the Tommee Tippee that you can fill the bottles with sterile water to the right amount and then add formula when needed.
I’m a little confused on this as the water would be cold by the time needed if poured into the bottles so wouldn’t kill the bacteria which is the reason for the hot shot? So which way is right? Or do you only do one of these methods until a certain age etc?
FYI - My baby is now 3 months old. Thanks.

So I’m in the US and here’s what I can tell you- you can mix formula into cold water. It doesn’t not have to be warm!! You use bottled filtered water for babies! So it’s already bacteria free! You sterilize the bottles between uses, fill with bottled water and add the formula you want when desired! Pre mixed formula is good for 24hrs when kept in the fridge! Out of the fridge it’s good for two hours and after the baby starts drinking it’s good for 1 hour.

Yes it would be too cool so I don’t do that as it won’t kill bacteria in the formula. What I do it take a flask of boiling water and the power in a little power holder and then make the bottle when out. I usually make it up 15mins before I’m going to need it so it can cool down. Otherwise you can also take a flask of cooled boiled water too to make it the right temperature. If I’m just going out for a few hours I make the bottle at home and put it in a insulated bag.

Hello so I do a lot of feeds out and about. I boil water in kettle at home pop in a flask / Chillys bottle to keep the water hot. When I need to make the bottle I measure the boiled water in the sterile bottle to the amount needed then pop it in the Nuby Rapid Cool (about £30 but lifesaver) along with pre measured formula and then it’s the perfect temperature to add back into the bottle to feed. If you have sterile water then that is okay to use as the bacteria has gone when boiled and added to the formula. The baby can have the bottle at room temperature within 2 hours when made up with formula so maybe buy a bottle warmer to keep it warm when your out and use within 2 hours or invest in a Nuby as that will be helpful if needed after 2 hours x

The Nuby rapid cool is great, thermal flask for the hot water and then it comes with a rapid cool flask where you add powder and water and it will cool to the right temp. It’s designed for being out and about 👌🏼

Nuby rapid cool for out and about is great but if just heading out for a few hours I make a bottle with just boiled water at home and it’s cool enough by time she needs it

Just get the ready made formula for when out xx

please don’t advise people in the Uk this. Our formula is not sterile and needs to be mixed with water above 70 degrees as advised by the nhs.

the poster didn’t specify. That’s what I said in the beginning of my comment that I’m in the US.

I bring water in a flask that keeps the temperature stable (I have one that tells me what temperature the water is), the powder in a container already “portioned”, and sterile bottles :) both the flask and the containers you can find on Amazon

Nuby rapid is a life safer for feeds on the go xx

this is a Uk group…

that’s really great, but just because it’s been ok for you that doesn’t mean it’s ok for every baby, and (as I mentioned previously) nhs recommend mixing with boiling water. Obviously not all parents will follow these guidelines, but that’s what they are 🤷🏻♀️
Out of interest, does your formula specifically say to make the bottles the way you have been?

I take a small thermos of boiling water and a larger one with cooled boiled water. Add the boiled water to the formula like a hot shot to kill the bacteria then fill it up with the cool boiled water. Cheaper than buying the nuby rapid cool

ahhhh I was just shown the post on my feed and answered. I didn’t join or see the flag! My bad!!

I have two flasks one larger one to carry boiling water and one smaller one to carry cooled boiling water so I can use the hot water to sterilise the formula and the cooled to make it perfect drinking temperature and I just use a clean sterile bottle to measure and I have pots with premeasured formula or we also use the Aptimal milk tabs which are super handy for on the go

you’re formula doesn’t have instructions on how to make it? That’s strange 🤔
Location sort of does matter, as different locations have different guidance.
