Silent Reflux - Kendamil

Hi,

Has any switched from Kendamil to Kendamil comfort and seen a difference?

My little boy is 3.5 weeks old and he’s on Kendamil. He was BF for week 1 with the odd bottle in there before full switch.

He’s been fine until this last week where he’s a little constipated and is suffering with silent reflux, he’s just writhing around after every feed and his stomach is super hard. GP gave us some small tips before a follow up next week and possible medication.

I am using infacol but so far it’s not helped his trapped wind. We were also using a prep machine but trialling not using that just incase. Has anybody switched to Kendamil comfort and has it helped? Or would you go down another route first?

I think I am suffering with a little bit of baby blues/PND and this whole situation is stressing me out and I feel helpless and like I’m shutting down.

Thanks x

I used to used aptamil comfort and had the same problem but as soon as I switched to aptamil anti reflux, I found the dirty nappies started to slowly go back to normal and reflux was a lot less my little ones both had really bad reflux x

Every child is different though defo ask your health care visitor for advice xx

If reflux is still bad or progressively getting worse maybe ask your GP about omeprazole x

My boy was on Kendamil and had reflux so I thought I would try comfort but it did nothing for him apart from give him green poo😂, spoke to the doctors and they said to try anti reflux milk so he is now on cow and gate anti reflux milk, been nearly 3 weeks and going well so far! Infacol also makes reflux worse as it’s quite acidic (learnt that from the Kendamums group on fb)!

Apparently kendamil is more creamier than other brands of milk too so if a baby has a sensitive stomach or digestive system it might be harder to digest. I’ve had success previously with cow and gate anti reflux too but with silent reflux both of my babies didn’t improve without omeprazole.
Seemingly infacol can also make reflux worse because it’s acidic so if baby already has acid reflux it can aggravate.
It’s soo tough and I have totally been there. You’re doing great - if it’s really bad personally I’d go down the omeprazole route xx

Reflux is a symptom not a diagnosis, so you’d want to eliminate allergies, tension and any oral issues causing air intake such as tongue tie x

Thanks! I never knew this and is super helpful. I’ll stop infacol from now on. Might discuss switching formula with my husband and doctor is ringing back next week re. omeprazole. I don’t want to give him gaviscon because it can make them constipated and he’s already struggling on the toilet front. One GP has mentioned adding a formula thickener but I think I’d prefer to try the comfort formula option first. Thanks so much x

so his tongue tied has been checked but I’ve never been confident with their diagnosis so may look into it privately just to be sure. Thank you x

thank you so much! What made your decision to go C&G? Sorry if I’m being nosey. I’ve been reading about them all morning but unsure which one to go for if we switch xx

Thanks 🩷🩷

good idea! List of approved tongue tie specialists can be found here: https://www.tongue-tie.org.uk/find-a-practitioner/

Red flags for tongue tie include sometimes clicking on the bottle (if they are even latched at all!) reflux, sleeping with their mouth open, tongue not to the roof of the mouth, along with fussing on the bottle and after feeds x

have you noticed any other symptoms that might point to an allergy? Both of my children also have cows milk allergy. It’s just with you saying he’s constipated. (Can be a symptom)
All of the reflux milks/thickener and gaviscon basically do the same thing and thicken the milk so it stays down. But if he’s already constipated they might aggravate it more that’s the only thing x

I can’t help on the kendamil front but my 8 month old has been using thickener (carobel) since around the 8 week mark, we tried Gaviscon but used the ‘required dose’ and it constipated him so we switched to thickener not long after (in hindsight I should’ve maybe carried on with Gaviscon but a much lower dose but I had no idea what I was doing back then ha!) the milk thickener does suggest 1.5 scoops per 90ml as the highest dose but I’ve only ever done 0.5 scoops per 90ml or less and that’s worked ok for us & other than the first day or so no constipation.

You can increase/decrease when you know what’s working etc.

Just thought I’d share Incase it’s a route you go down. X

it’s one of the one’s recommended by drs, when I went to drs they gave me a list of them! For me it was between cow and gate and hipp organic! We also got his tongue tie cut 2 weeks ago which has helped too xx

Avatar

so he is going every 24 hours, it used to be 2-3 times but now it seems to be once late at night or early morning and then he’s trying the rest of the time. He’s constantly windy down there but really struggles bringing up burps xxx

Avatar

apparently hipp organic is a good milk recommendation as the milk is more broken down. I have to do the milk challenge with my daughter soon to see if she has a reaction and that’s the one I’m planning to use 🤞🏼 might be easier for him to digest xx

Thank you I’ll have a look! Xx

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Big nursing bras!

I’m looking for recommendations for good nursing bras for bigger breasted ladies!

I’m currently in a 38H which seems to be the biggest size done at M&S (UK based mama here) and it’s snug and not as supportive as I’d like. When I look online, they mainly seem to be sized S, M, L, XL etc rather than bra sizes.

Any recommendations please?

Strange question

Hello. I would identify myself as asexual but yes i am married and i have a child. But now that ive had my baby. I think its solidified that im done having sex. I feel bad as my partner keeps asking me but i just dont want to. Any advice on what i can do? Any other asexual moms out there? I guess this could be confusing but im not huge on being bound by a label. I have just always felt it represented me best since highschool.
