I’m sorry you are going through this, I’ve had 4 losses, it’s so heartbreaking and I hope you are doing okay xx
So sorry for your loss 💔 You won’t ovulate, or therefore conceive, whilst you are still having positive PT’s from your miscarriage. Your hormones won’t allow eggs to mature and be released whilst HCG is still present. In my experience, my OPKs were positive all the while I was having a faint positive PT. So not reliable Also in my experience, I didn’t pass the retained tissue on my own, so needed further intervention. Hopefully they’ve given you a timeframe as to when to expect this to happen, as there’s an increased risk of infection etc.
You can still ovulate whilst showing a positive pregnancy test.. if you have a hcg of 40ish or less your body will start to ovulate. This happened to me I was having weekly bloods after my miscarriage and was bleeding all the time I had hcg in me. When my hcg was about 30ish I ovulated and confirmed with a ovulation test. A couple of days later my pregnancy test was negative and a hcg of 0 and I stopped bleeding 11 days later I got my first period x
Interesting there appears to be conflicting advice.. I was told the exact opposite of Emily, but no bloods taken, just weekly/10 day ultrasounds of my ovaries, where they were monitoring follicle maturation during my prolonged missed miscarriage.
Thank you all for your messages, I really appreciate it 🤍 On the NHS website it says you can ovulate as soon as two weeks after your miscarriage. But I’ve also been told different things by different nurses… I think I should maybe err on the side of caution and not risk infection. I’ll ring the hospital next week and they might get me in for another scan because if the sac is still there they’ll have to remove it or give me tablets. On the plus side, they’ve referred me to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I was worried they wouldn’t after two but they did. Hopefully I can get some answers 🤞
Also - how do I know if I’ve passed the sac?
@Phi when I had my miscarriage, I ovulated almost exactly 2 weeks after my bleeding stopped and I had a negative PT. I was very very fortunate (and surprised) to fall pregnant 2 weeks after our loss. I was advised to wait for a period, for dating purposes, but I didn’t. I definitely wouldn’t have unprotected sex whilst you know your miscarriage isn’t complete. It’s great that they have referred you without needing to see if you have another loss. I hope they can give you some answers, and wish you all the best, for whenever you’re ready, for a healthy pregnancy in the future ♥️
Yeah maybe I need to wait a bit longer. My bleeding has stopped, just discoloured discharge when I wipe, like old blood. This happened last time then I had my period and went back to normal. It’s all very confusing!
Sorry about your MC, hope you’re ok. I don’t believe you can ovulate whilst having a positive pregnancy test, your body still thinks you are pregnant as you are releasing/have HCG in your system. OPKs will be positive due to the presence of HCG. Your body needs to get rid of the retained tissue before you will be able to get pregnant again. You will know when this has happened when pregnancy tests are negative.
Okay thanks Amy! I’ll give it some time and see if it passes then do a pregnancy test next week.
I have had quite an experience with this! I had a miscarriage over Christmas at 9 weeks, a D&C (second one) and was still testing positive 12 weeks on. EPU said everything looked fine and it would pass. I was ovulating but no period at all. Two weeks on nothing and no answers. I did some research and discovered Asherman's Syndrome, scarring of the uterus from D&C procedures. I found a private specialist and went and saw him - Mr Lower. He immediately identified scarring in my cervix and uterus, and retained pregnancy tissue in a few places. I ended up having a hyteroscopy to remove it and did hormone therapy. First cycle back trying a few months later I got pregnant after having a very heavy flow. And I am now 9 weeks pregnant. He said I would not have been able to get pregnant with retained tissue and even a slight positive pregnancy test and it would have taken months and months to come out naturally because my cervix was blocked. My big learning from this is to trust your body.
I'm so glad I sought his help. Even though it has been expensive. I still wouldn't have answers if I hadn't and I definitely wouldn't be pregnant now. I'm not saying you need to have surgery like me, but if you did have a D&C it may explain why the tissue isn't coming out. At the very least keep putting pressure on your EPU or doctor, you could always email Mr Lower or someone similar to get a very detailed scan etc.
I've just read you had the miscarriage two weeks ago - I'm so sorry about this. As I said, I don't want to scare you but also if it continues for a few more weeks it is worth looking into it
Thanks Emma, I didn’t have a D&C I just opted to let it pass naturally. They said I can ring them if I doesn’t pass and I think they’ll give me another scan. That’s very interesting and I will definitely advocate for myself! Congratulations on your pregnancy 🤍
It’s not recommended to try again until everything has completely passed, and they ideally like you to have a period first before trying again to make sure cycles gone back to normal as easier to know how many weeks you are. You most likely won’t ovulate again until everything has passed as you still have hcg in your system from the sac being there hence why you are still getting faint positive tests x
