My baby has a flat head on one side due to being born with torticollis, we are debating a helmet but I really don’t want to go that way! Is there any success stories of bubbas heads rounding out without a helmet as they got older? He’s 4 months old in 2 weeks and I’m really in two minds about a helmet!☹️

Most babies heads sort itself out once they start sitting up on their own. The NHS typically steers clear of helmets are they’re very expensive, can causes rashes etc and a lack of clear research to whether they work.
I would go to the GP if you’re concerned.

by rolling him over do you mean roll him to his tummy? Or roll him over to the side just so he turns his head the right way then lay him back on his back? Currently doing lots of tummy time and got a carrier recently need to start using it much more

Im hoping it gets better as he gets older🤞

just turn his head, so if he’s laying facing the right side just turn it so he’s facing the left. X

yeah I’ve been doing that, tummy time and stuff and also seeing physio to sort his neck out so doing all the stuff I need to do, just hoping in time once he’s more mobile it will start to even out!🤞

you’re doing all the right things lovely, it’s a bit harder when they have hardly any hair as you notice the flatness a lot more. Luckily my daughter was born with lots of hair so hardly noticed it unless her hair was wet xx

just his side unless he can actually roll onto his tummy anyway. My girl was just always on her left side as her neck was the issue so I would roll her onto her right side to use the other side of her head. For supervised day naps you could roll a blanket up and put it behind him so he can’t roll back. If he’s a tummy sleeper though, that’ll help anyway x

Thankyou❤️ he had lots of hair but has lost a lot of it bless him xxx

amazing Thankyou! X

My lo had a more severe flattening than pictured (not at all trying to make it a competition ☺️) he's 15 months now and once he was more mobile alongside getting a mop of hair it's sorted itself out/disguised itself. I would suspect if you did go down the helmet route you'd likely to have to pay privately for it. Good luck mama ❤️

Baby Begin on instagram has great information about torticollis and plagiocephaly. They can also do virtual appointments.

thankyou! There’s some hope🤞

My little boy was exactly the same! He’s now 16 months and it’s almost completely gone and can’t tell at all with his hair!x

My LB’s head looked like your son’s until recently. He’s 18 months now & it’s definitely much more round than it used to be (without helmet). It’s still not totally round but i think when his hair comes in thicker it won’t be noticeable at all 😊
When you’re LO starts sitting up more & lying in different positions that should help to get rid of the flat side ☺️

My little girl has torticollis and a different shaped head
She was quite flat on one side but since sitting and rolling etc it isn’t a bad but she does have a bulge at the other side
The consultants said they wouldn’t do anything with it and it can take upto 2 years for the head change to what it becomes for good
Her head circumference is on the larger centile due to the bump but they aren’t concerned
She is under physio for torticollis, just say they don’t really do anything bit useless 😂 they just send you home with exercises and you see them every few months.
My little one has a check with surgeons when she’s 15 months to check if they need to surgically intervene or if her neck muscles are long enough.
She’s 6 months old now and doing much better so just wait for next few months when he is moving about.

My little boys head was alot flatter than his and it's corrected it's self I wouldn't worry too much

My son had torticollis and a flat head from it we fid physical therapy exercises and it corrected itsself hes 15 months his head is fine

My son is flat headed. Cant tell not since his hair has grown thick. Hasn't affected any developments, and we was told by the physio to basically put all worries aside as these things can happen and no one's heads are perfect!
