So I’m going abroad next month for a family wedding and not taking my daughter who is breastfed (topped up with formula). I do want to continue breastfeeding when I return but don’t want to spend the entire time pumping whilst away.
Does anyone know if I can reduce her intake slightly (give more formula) before I go to reduce how much I need to pump and then is it easy to re-establish my supply when I return?

Yeah you can always increase her supply of formula and reduce breastmilk but your supply will follow that, it will drop because your body sees that baby doesn’t need it.
It’s not easy to re-establish a supply, especially not if you’re giving formula as a main. The formula may stretch her tummy making breastmilk amounts too low for her larger formula tummy. You’d be better doing little (no more than 4oz) and more often (when she wants it) to protect her breastfed tummy. It would take a lot of regular pumping when you came back, lots of putting baby to breast.. but for all this effort you may as well drop your ‘top up’ (which if over 3oz is actually a replacement feed -IBCLC Lucy webber)
You would need to pump the entire time you’re out there to maintain your supply. You’d need to pump anyway because you’d be at risk of mastitis (let me tell you that it’s nasty) and engorgement because you’ve gone from responsive feeding to nil.

Take it from someone who let their supply drop - it is not easy to get it back again! If continuing to mostly breastfeed is important to you then I can only recommend regular pumping whilst you’re away, even though it’s a faff!

Thanks all. Looks like I’m pumping regularly whilst away 🤣☺️ hands free pump it is 👍
