What’s the pre-op?

I had an emergency c section

Mine was on a Monday and had the section on the Thursday. It was pretty pointless tbh, could’ve been a phone call! Just signed some consent forms and they gave me a brief run down of the day. In and out within 10 mins, which was annoying because the hospital was a 40 min drive each way 😒
thank you!! That is a bit of a nightmare, my hospital is 30 min drive away too😫

I remember having to be swabbed for something? And getting given a tablet to take the night before the op?
It must have been 2 or 3 days before the operation

I had my pre op 6 days before my c section. I had blood tests, mrsa swabs, ankles measured for anti blood clot stockings, an anaesthetist spoke to me to explain the whole spinal/epidural process and a midwife spoke to me to answer any questions.

Also got given 4 omeprazole tablets to take 2 the night before and 2 the morning of the c section

Had my elective Caesarian pre op the day before (but I went into labour a week early).
Bloods taken, blood pressure, surgical swabs done, instructions for arrival and when to stop eating, script given for omeprazole to collect at the chemist and a general are you okay and ready to go xx

I had my preop this week Monday and my section is planned for next week Wednesday (but I know a girl who is having her preop on the same day as bloods appt which is 2 days before the op)...
Pre op involved speaking to a midwife and then to the anethetist... the midwife went through the all the bits you have to start doing from 2 days before the op (washing in antibacterial wash, using antimicrobial cream in the nose 3 times a day, taking omeprazole for neutralising stomach acids, eating a lot of carbs the day before and these 2 carby drinks for the morning of the op.... when to stop eating and when to turn up at the hospital, what to bring etc..... she also swabbed for MRSA).
The anethetist just spoke about the op and the spinal and explained all the risks which is scary but they have to do it..
They were both very open to questions too which was handy 😁

those are the surgical swabs for general stuff like MRSA x

I believe so!
Thanks everyone! where do they take the swab from?🙈x

They just swab your groin area near the top of your thigh, just a swipe on your skin with a long q tip x

Throat, nose and groin at our local hospital. The MRSA swabs need to be done within 48 hours of the op.

Just to add, I didn’t get a swab - they told me it’s only necessary if you’ve been in an affected hospital in the past 2 years so you might not need one x

My MRSA swabs were done up my nose and on my perineum (but she let me do that one behind the curtain 🤣) - it was done 9 days before my scheduled op and results have already come back negative - so looks like it's different for every hospital

Mine was the day before! They took bloods, weighed me and gave me the omeprazole tablets! Then they send me on my way, was the fastest appointment I’d had throughout the whole pregnancy!
