What a week!! 🥹💙

So Oliver started his nursery on Tuesday and wed. It was so emotionally stressful :( haha
Oliver struggled with the transition.
Tuesday was laid back as was his first day, but wed the nursery teacher started stepping in. (I found that hard someone else stepping in and taking control other than a family member. She's so lovely though)
He was great at first on the second day, left me to go exploring, but then he spotted the cups and spoons 🙈 Oliver struggles with boundaries and doesn't like being told not to do something.
All he wanted to do was play with the cups and spoons that had been put out for the adults. Nursery teacher took him away from it on wed. Proper melt down :(
She then suggested that I leave for 10 mins to see how he gets on..... prob the wrong time to do it when he had already been upset 🙈 he cried and screamed and hit the teacher. When I went back, I couldn't see him but could hear "mummmm mummm 😭" my heart!!
They are fantastic mind, managed to get him distracted while also supporting me. They want to continue with his settling in sessions and give him more 1-1. Totally dreading 19th as I won't be there for him 😭
Yesterday Oliver had his 2 year review. She's going to review him at start of new year for his speech, but said if nursery want to intervene then they can (they work alongside salt, and have had all the training) she said it may even be quicker that way.
I explained how I was also feeling in myself. That mum guilt is also so real. But didn't seem that interested, just laughed and said what you like. 🤷 She was lovely and gave some great tips!! But wish it was my own HV, she doesn't do 2 year reviews though :(
She didn't seem impressed at all that he still has his milk in a bottle 🤷 I've tried cups for milk but he won't touch it.
She's going to send me out information on boundaries and tantrums.
So yes ladies, what a bloody week. Sooo emotional xx

Ruth, you are a fantastic mum. You don't need to get approval from health visitors in regards to what cups you use etc. You do what you like with your boy 💙

I’ve had a week too! Maxi absolutely smashed preschool on Tuesday didn’t bat an eyelid when he couldn’t see played independently too, Thursday he had first full day with the childminder and absolutely smashed that but was super clingy when he got home (to be expected) yesterday was hell on earth he was back at preschool with me in the morning and he was a devil/ pushing kids over, knocked down the fence twice, had a tantrum every time I moved, was starving but wouldn’t eat without me so we all had to swap jobs, when the other parents we’re collecting he was sat screaming and hitting me with a toy car whilst I was trying to chat to the parents and feed back about their child’s day! I left work hot sweaty and in tears, thank goodness daddy was working from home and he sat having lunch with maxi whilst I had 10 mins to myself! I know it’s all a hug transition for him but it’s been hard!

As a practitioner and parent I’d say the best thing for you and Oliver is to drop and go…

He’s going to settle much quicker without you and he knows you’ll come back! Had to do it with one of my new children this week and it definitely made it easier mum just leaving! I know it’s hard but trust the staff they will look after him x

agreed maxi doesn’t have a bottle but that’s cos he’s a weird kid 😂 my older 2 still had bottles at this age and it not affected their teeth or speech or anything! Use the damn bottle xx

Thanks so much girls 🥹💙 honestly wish you both didn't live miles away, you have the best advice and just simply amazing!! Made a boy mama feel so much better 🥰

poor maxi 🥰 crazy how we think one amazing day with them is going to be like that all the time 🤣 calm before the storm !! 💙

he’s testing the boundaries seeing if the other staff are going to say the same as mummy! I’m lucky that the ladies I work with are great and the could tell I was overwhelmed so they took maxi and let me escape to tidy the garden and he was absolutely fine! I go on holiday on the 18th and I think it’s going to be good for maxi and me cos honestly I feel like he might was well crawl back inside me so we can be close allllll the time 😂😂 also the mum guilts always going to be there no matter what so just accept that it’s crap and tomorrow you’ll feel guilty about something else 🤦‍♀️😂

Effie still has a bottle and a dummy for bed. She still has formula too- due to her allergies. The HV hasn’t mentioned any issues with it, ( she actually wrote to the gp to get him to continue to prescribe the formula after she was 2) I generally think it depends which HV you have sometimes.
As a early years teacher I was always worried about making sure the children had good speech but Effie has fantastic speech and the bottle hasn’t caused any issues. Do what you feel is right.
And I agree with the others, drop and go- best way forward. They all eventually adjust to nursery/preschool. By the time they go to big school they love it.

thank you 🥰
She didn't really say anything about bottle, just gave "the look" 🤣 then eventually said well they will end up going in the bin eventually so will have to be cup. I will only do that once he's taken to the cup. (haven't tried again yet 🤣) xx

yepppp I dread the day daddy takes him out for his first beer 😬🤣
Thank you so much lovely xx

Lily still has milk in a bottle, she still loves her milk and won’t drink it from a cup either so I don’t care what the HV says about that, she’s my child, she can drink from a cup, straw etc but she just prefers her milk in her bottle still.
We also struggle with boundaries and emotions with Lily, it’s so difficult but your doing amazing 💕

Avatar

thanks so much lovely , you are too!! I actually put Olivers milk in a juice bottle this morning. He looked at me like "WTF MAM?" 🤣 But drank it all . Might have helped the fact that he could still see his milk haha. Only downfall is it drips more than milk bottle so need to watch for tiny spills. I didn't dare try change the bottle for bed time , that can wait for another day 🤣🤣 xx

Avatar

I might start doing that with Lily’s morning milk too as she has it at breakfast so makes sense haha. I’m defo sticking with the night time bottle though as I think she knows it’s bedtime when she has her milk in the bottle and I cba for the meltdowns 😂 1 step at a time ay haha xx

Idiot husband

I am fuuuuming. Livid. Hubby went out to the pub last night, not a problem, you deserve it after a long week at work.

We have a baby and toddler.. so I said, sleep in the other room, take our toddlers monitor, as I don’t want you to disturb the baby.

I wake up to my toddler screaming, WITH HIM SLEEPING THROUGH IT!!!! When I checked her camera she was crying for 8 minutes. She has been awake over an hour now because she fully woke herself up crying so much. Her words: ‘daddy didn’t come’

Needed a space to rant before I actually go and bop him on the bloody nose😡😡😡😡

Baby girl enjoying her first slice of pizza

I was just giving her pieces off my slices. She kept a screeching until I gave her a slice of her own.

Edit: she ate one full slice and the toppings off a second

Based off of the boys and dolls post: if you have a son and daughter, do you let them play dress up or tea party together?

In relation to the post asking about dolls and getting them for boys... If you have a son and daughter, do you let them play dress up together or tea party together? Or do you make them play separately over a fear of a child's game or toys? And yes I said child's game and toys instead of gendering them on purpose. Just wondering how deep rooted this ideology is and does it make people make decisions that affect sibling relationships and playtime.

Personally yes they can play with any toy and any imagination play they want because it's great for their relationship, it also benefits both in the future ESPECIALLY the male in my opinion.

Any WFH moms with little/no childcare?

I start back to work from home in a little over a week. My LO will be almost 4 months then (16 weeks). What are your best tips and tricks to make things go smoothly for you and for baby?

Am I doing this wrong ?? 🥲🥲

My baby just turned 9 months old and I move had her on purées since 6 months. She’s now on thicker and lumpier purées but after she was doing a better job at eating 2 meals a day she’s now back to refusing food most of the time. She’d take a spoonful or 2 and I can tell she likes the taste but then she’d refuse to eat any more. She used to do this at 7 months I can’t believe we’re back to this again 😭😭

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here… should I just go the BLW route instead ?? Am I progressing her too slowly into solids?

Nursery fund process

Can anyone please explain how does the nursery fund process work. I'm supposed to return to work mid September and I'm really stressed about what to do. When should I start looking for nurseries and how does the funding from the government works. I would appreciate if someone could explain in details.
